:flowerforyou: Hi everyone !! I am still new to this all. Before I had my second baby, I was doing dance exercises and also using my exercise ball, which was working. But the same CD can get boring after a while !! I was thinking of buying a pilates CD and trying that out . Is this good for losing weight and also strengthening up ?

I used to go to a Pilates class 3 times a week before I hurt my back. (unrelated)
It was great!!! I loved it! If I was still in the gym I'd be going now. It's great for strengthening the core muscles, the back, the arms, the legs.....everything. We also did some great stretches that worked very well on posture. I would reccommend Pilates to anyone and everyone!

I have tried them and really don't care for them. That is a personal thing though. All that being upside down and stuff kinda makes me sick to my stomach:laugh: Plus at my age, my body just doesn't want to bend and twist like that....:noway: I do know of a lot of people it works for though. If you have a library, see if they have a CD to borrow and try it first before you buy one.

I LOVE Pilates! I used to do them all of the time. I've just started back. Let me tell you...Pilates really works your abs and the entire body! Go for it!

I LOVE pilates!!! My favorites are any with Ana Caban at gaiam.com, but you can get them locally too at Barnes & Noble, Walmart, etc. When I did her workouts faithfully for 30 days I saw a complete change in my body. I was so much more toned and my posture was better too. I'd recommend keeping cardio in your workout still for burning calories and keeping your metabolism going.

Another thing with pilates....it's really important to do the exercises properly. Form is much more important than repetition. That's one reason why I like Ana, she's really good at keeping you on track with your body positioning.

Hope you give it a try :flowerforyou:

Pilates is a great strength and toning exercise and it will help shape your body but it doesn't really burn that many calories. It does burn some but not anywhere near as much as cardio exercises. You need to do a combination of exercises. You need cardio (walking briskly, running, swimming, etc) and you need toning (isometrics, strength training, pilates, yoga, etc) for a really good complete workout.
