DDR - comparing workout mode to a HRM

I LOVE DDR! I play the hardest difficulty for most songs, only thing is I wonder how accurate the calorie counter is. Because a 2 min song I can burn like 40 calories sometimes if it has a lot of steps. But when I think about it, and compare it to my gym workouts, that number seems a bit high for 2 minutes.... so I'm wondering if anyone here has used an HRM while playing DDR, did you find the calories burned to be pretty close to what the game says, or not at all? I don't have a HRM yet, so I'm wondering if I should maybe cut my calories burned by half when logging it on the website. Also if anyone knows a good HRM thats cheap (cheap for me would be under 50$, even lower if possible) please link me towards it!

Take your HR manually a few times, average it and enter it here:

The be sure to let us know how accurate it is for you. A few people have said it's accurate to within 15 cals of their HRM readout and it's what I always use.0 -

Well I use my HRM because it knows when I cheat and when I dont cheat. My heart rate does not lie0

Just remember that the calorie burn will be different for everyone due to different weight, gender and levels of fitness.0

My DDR ask for my height and weight so it's accurate plus I play heavy mode too it's intense I'm sure we would burn 40 one song easily!0

I'm going to start taking my heart rate after those hard songs, because I've been doing them for such a long time they aren't really a challenge anymore, they are more like a routine, so I think my body may have adjusted to it and I doubt I'm personally burning as many calories as it says
I know everyone will be different, I just wondered if anyone had compared the 2 together.0 -

So I took my heart rate after a challenge mode song. The game said I burned 45 calories. According to my heart rate, and that website another user posted, I only burned 15 calories. That's a big difference. The song was 1 min 40 seconds. Kinda figured burning 45 cals in that short of time would be hard.... it could just be that i'm so used to the game now that its too simple for me... but someone without as much experience who pushes through the hard songs might work up more of a sweat playing it and burn that much... sucks for me I guess lol0 -
Do you have an iphone? There's an app on the iphone that can track your HR effectively. I downloaded it, tried it, and compared it to my HRM Wrist-Watch and it was accurate. It works by turning the flash on the camera, and you rest your finger against the camera and it lights it up and it measures the fluctuation of pigments from the pumping blood over the course of a minute or two.
So yeah, if you have an iphone nab it. It's free and is called 'heart fitness' if I remember correctly. Let me know if it works for you!

I wish I had an iPhone, that sounds awesome I think it'd be cheaper for me to just buy a HRM unless my phone company decides to give out free IPhones with a new upgrade which I am due for lol.. but unlikely. thanks for the info0 -

is it accurate for you? I've read a lot of people dissatisfied with the ones at walmart saying they arent very accurate and uncomfortable0 -
No matter the HRM you get, you should usually take 2-3 readings to get an average. Though compared to the workout machines at the gym, the wrist watch was always the same as what the gym equipment said my HR was. Give or take 10, but that can change in seconds anyways.0
