Can anyone tell me what the benefits/drawbacks are to sweating it out in the sauna? I mean, I get that I can shed water weight for a short time, but does it burn any calories? And, does it have any long term benefits should I do it on a more regular basis?

I have found that my body feels better if I sit in it for 15 minutes following my work out. I do some stretching in there but I have stretched out of the sauna also. I think the warm helps my muscles relax. I do have some arthritis, and firbromyagia so pain is common for me. As far as sweating to lose I think you drink it back any way so I don't do it for the weight loss. I did however weigh my self once before I went in and when I got out I had lost 1/2 a pound. but that's just water.0

Its okay, I kinda figured you didn't mean to do that. :ohwell: Yeah, I noticed it feels pretty good also. Maybe I try stretching in there next time so I'm not so sore all the time!!0

I love the sauna. My skin feels great afterwards and it just relaxes me in general. Also, my hubby and I typically hit the apartment fitness center sauna together, so it's a nice time to get to just chat with him and catch up on stuff. (he's an actor/director and does pretty much back to back plays all year so he's gone most nights and weekends due to rehearsals and set-builds)
As far as calorie burn, I wear a BodyMedia Fit and have purposefully looked after each time we've gone and I burn no more or less calories than when I'm sitting around on the couch.0
