Coconut water the new sport drink?

My advice - if you want to try coconut water, avoid all the processed stuff & go for a real coconut. The kind you buy in the produce section of your grocery - if your regular stores doesn't carry it, try an asian or latino store. You need to find the baby ones - white, not the dark brown kind - and it's a bit of a challenge to cut open (be careful - I sort of 'saw' my way through the top - don't use an expensive or flimsy knife - a google search will give you better instructions/photos/videos).
Let me tell you - it is SO worth the trouble. I tried a bottled variety & it was nothing like the real thing! Amazing - and you get to eat the soft, custardy (so very good for you!) coconut, too!! Amazing stuff - now I'm craving it...0 -
My family is from Puerto Rico and I love anything with coconut except coconut water. It's an acquired taste I think. My cousin loves Vita Coco though. Make sure to drink it fresh.
Have you ever had the really fresh - from baby coconuts - kind? It's a bit of work getting them open - but oh, so different than when processed. Doesn't taste like coconut, though - to me, it's just very refreshing.0 -
I work in the nutrition department at work, and coconut water has gotten very popular. I don't drink it because I don't like the taste, and I find water more refreshing when I'm working or exercising, and instead get my sugar from fruits. I would recommend it if you're burning calories and sweating, but not for lounging around.0

Coconut water is fantastic i have been drinking it for years! It is great post exercise as it replenishes Electrolite's and it also contains fat fighting Enzymes!
Just make sure you by only pure, raw ,unflavoured, organic! No added sugar... nothing!! Just pure coconut water .... or really your just haivng some other sugar filled drink!!
YUM to coconut goodness!!
This! And yes it's a mild laxative as well
Not sure about that - I have a pretty sensitive system due to surgery on that part of my body yrs ago - never had that effect on me. At least not the real stuff from the grocers...
Dairy - for me - now that's a whole 'nuther thing... love it but can't have much at all.0 -
Coconut water is good. Like someone else shared I used the Body Ecology cultures to make coconut water keifer - oh my goodness. It is like champagne! And then I would culture the coconut meat and make the BEST yogurt type thing I ever had. When I did that all the time I had such pretty skin.
I work for Whole Foods and I see coconut water/ products as a bit of a fad at the moment, though. We keep running out because people buy so much of it. Thailand (where most coconut products come from) was wiped out by the US demand for it. Coconut is great but there is an issue with treading more softly with it.0 -

I need to find a good brand. The only coconut water I've ever had tastes like how feet and moldy dish towels smell.
which brand was it?
VITACOCO in the carton like up there! ^ And it wasn't expired.
Me too, I second this! I tried the Vita Coco plain, chilled, non expired, and I hated it! Like another person said, I love anything coconut flavoured or tasting, but the taste of coconut water doesn't taste too great to me.0 -
I know the feeling. I hate canned or bottled coconut water. Luckily I live in a place where everyday there are a bunch of people selling coconuts on the street, You just have to make a hole, put a straw and enjoy!!!
i'm jealous :sad:0
