How do I work my inner and outer thighs and my butt? I want something effective and want to trim and tone. These are my troubled areas. What causes fat to go here? Is it carbs, sugar, sodium, etc. I want to use all methods to reduce the weight there (that's were most of it is at). I am some serious need of some help.

Genetic predisposition causes it to go there. You get to blame your parents for that. Unfortunately only surgery can remove fat directly from an area. No exercise can spot reduce fat from any area. Fat is lost systematically, meaning if you lose 1% bodyfat, it comes from all over your body. If your legs and butt hold most of your fat, then that will usually be the last place to lose.

Can't spot reduce. It's genetic. Fat goes on and comes off based on genetics. Can't do anything about it, other than reduce total body fat.

squats are good. i have a gazelle (old school, i kno) and you can work out those parts out very well.
  • You sound like a pear like me. It has taken a long time, and it is the last area to go, but I have managed to lose 4 inches off my hips mainly by running (like, marathon running). I tend to melt down so I lose my chest first, then my waist and finally my hips, and thighs. It just takes persistence and patience. I have found exercises like squats and lunges really help tone but initially may make you look bigger as the muscle develops under the remaining fat. This is my experience as a classic pear. Good luck to you and add me if you would like another friend.
  • Thank you for your responses...What about toning these areas? Are there workouts to help these areas so its not as bad?

cycling, spin, dancing! high cardio and fun activities; they will help you reduce overall fat, and you will specifically tone up the lower half.

    blessings.

But these don't directly cause fat loss in the legs.

Find some stairs to run up and down on. Take two at a time. Lunges and back kicks and leg presses, oh my! :-)
