I don't have a heart rate monitor (yet) to monitor my calories burned. When I get one, is there a way to enter the actual calories on the exercise tracker? I have been looking because I am curious as to how that will work, but I have not seen that option.

you can make your own exercise and put in your own amount of calories burned under "create a new exercise"
  • When you record your cardio workouts you can log the minutes and it will automatically calculate an estimated calories burned in the box. if you know your actual calories burned you can just delete the estimate and enter the actual. Hope this helps!

Yes. When you select the exercise and put in the minutes worked, you can overtype the calories to whatever you want.

When you do get an HRM that shows the number of calories burned, make sure you subtract from that the number of calories you would have burned anyway if you didn't exercise. HRM's do not automatically do that.

Oh, wow, I never thought of that before. That means if you eat back all those calories you're over eating. Ouch!

How I figured out that number:
I looked up my Normal Daily Activity (Home > Goals) and divided by 1440 to get how many calories I burn per minute. Then multiply that by the number of minutes I exercised. Subtract that number from the HRM count. Whew!

Too bad mfp doesn't do this automatically...
  • I never thought about that either. Thanks for brining it to my attn!
