my local gym has had a revamp and its all new and shiny however the additional vending machines have caused much head scratching as to who at head office authorized it. I equate it to selling beer at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting!!

There's a new branch of a chain gym opening up nearby so I checked out its webpage (looking for a new gym possibly, its getting cold and dark!) ....

.... apparently every monday night there's a pizza party that they serve "hundreds of pizzas" at.

    *sigh*

They try to keep people fat so they won't quit the gym?

Wow, that is something! My gym doesn't have the vending machine, but for whatever reason, they have coolers with beer and wine in them behind the front desk... I've always wondered what on earth for.

I go to Planet Fitness, they have Pizza Monday the first Mon of every month. But honestly, I see people eating a slice or two, not gorging, and I've seen a ton of people there that have shown progress. I haven't seen anyone that I think is doing bad, and I'm there all week. They even know me :) So I think if you work it into your diet, its not so bad. I've had a slice once and I've lost 48 lbs since starting there in April. But I guess since it's free it can be a temptation for people that think working out negates a horrid diet.
  • I get to see people who are coming out of the McDonalds drive thru shoving fries, burgers and shakes into their pie-holes as I'm trudging along on my treadmill. woo-frickin'-hoo. At least there isnt anything this blatently counter productive inside my gym.

Mmmm All Mars/Masterfoods confectionery... very interesting

I remember the gym at Uni having a vending machine offering sweets. Of course that was back in the day before sport drinks and shakes were all the rage... i.e. last century

Personally, I also don't know why my gym has a vending machine selling lucozade and the like that are all 300+ calories. But then if you are fit and not overweight then I guess you can afford to blow 300 after a good workout.

Only from what I can see, most folks that use the gym only do cardio and otherwise just play at using the strength machines. Apart from the serious muscle marys

Are they forcing folks to buy them? Will indulging a little in those items derail everything? Meh.
  • what a crock!

I work at the YMCA and we have a vending machine close to the pool with alot of unhealthy snacks..however they are also overly priced as well lol. We also have a pop machine but it is all diet pop lol and then a gatorade 0 and juice water machine. and then there are healthy snacks behind the counter for cheaper then the unhealthy ones. I can see the point of snack stuff at the Y though with alot of kids there.

  • My chiropractor's office has snow-skiing, rock climbing and motorcycle magazines. Our pediatric dentist gives kids candy when they leave. Variation on a theme...
  • I literally laughed out loud seeing that picture - thank you for that.

Lol...the question is " do you want us to succeed or do you want us to fail?"

As long as you keep paying your gym membership, they couldn't give a crap!

lol this is probably a method they have for keeping people paying for the gym membership "sell more junk food so people feel they need to come burn off every last calorie" lol

Our gym is next to a Subway - I often smell their bread baking on the way out.

OH - I used to go to a gym that was next to a Dairy Queen.

Yep ~ I go to that gym haha ~ its the first monday night of the month. I dont really like pizza so it doesnt bother me.

A funny, the first night we went (me an my gym buddy) we were on the treadmill an she out of the blue asks me if I think they would get upset if she was eating pizza on the treadmill. I cracked up laughing ~ I replied that she might get a funny look or 2.
Thing was, I hadnt seen the pizza, and from where I was at it was hidden by something else.
She isnt there to lose weight, she's there to support me, and gain muscle. She's tiny lol. Having said that, I do think its really odd that a gym would serve pizza.
