I don't do it regular, but it does help me have alot more flexability and balance. I'm sure if you do it regularly it will help to tone and strengthen0

i second this!0 -
My core is so much stronger! Core strength/definition has probably been the biggest benefit.
I'm also a lot more flexible, and my balance is better0 -
I do it more to reduce stress and establish focus. Good for flexibility and joints too.0

I also agree!! To me yoga is also a way to wind down from my day and just relax while stretching out my body. If you are just begining start of with some simple classes the ones I really enjoy doing right now are Candle light yoga, hatha yoga, and meditation. Yoga is especially good right after a nice work out!! It will give you a good peace of mind, and help you think clearer and calmer0 -
I have lost 15lbs since joining MFP, and PiYo (a type of yoga) has been my main physical activity. There are lots of different kinds... if you join a class and you don't think you are sweating or getting a good burn, try a different one. I have great arms now, my belly is shrinking, and I am getting lots of compliments. Not to mention I have a stronger core which makes me stand up straighter and I am more flexible and healthy which helps in LOTS of ways (and not just the dirty ones!). I feel better whenever I do other exercise now too, core strength is so important.
There are some great DVD's too... I have the Biggest Loser Weightloss Yoga dvd, which makes you sweat!!!! It's less about flexibility and balance and more about working out!0 -
I'll also add that all those things yoga does for you will also bleed over into other exercise, helping with form and therefore effectiveness.
Go yoga! lol
(I think Pilates has a very similar effect, although I've never done it. So if you hate yoga -- though there are MANY different kinds to try -- try Pilates.)0 -

Agreed!!! Also it shows you where you are TODAY... no competition, not even with yourself. It keeps you in the moment. It helps you slow down and think a little. It also addresses the organs and glands in the body. Each posture either compresses or "opens" a lymphatic area of the body. It gives special attention to things like the thyroid, kidneys, adrenals...0 -
Thanks everyone for the great feedback on this topic.0
