Feeling better about myself.

I just want to start off with the fact that most people I know are laughing at the fact that I have begun watching my caloric intake and starting a healthy diet. I am 24 years old, 5'4, and 126lbs. I am not overweight but, I am heavier than I was before I had my wonderful daughter.

Up until last week I was eating fast food multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day! They say "you are what you eat" and that is exactly how I was feeling. I felt like a greasy ball of meat depleted of all nutrients. I wasn't drinking any water either, just sugary pointless soda pop. I was getting bothered by how tired and unmotivated I was.

Three weeks ago after my mother in law was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and was given no more than 12 months left to live, I decided to quit smoking cold turkey. I never want to put my daughter through that pain of losing me to something I knew would eventually kill me. I decided after that, it was time to take control of my cravings and unhealthy lifestyle and kick them to the curb!

Ever since I have started just watching what I eat I have not eaten out once besides one jimmy johns unwich which is basically a sandwich wrapped in lettuce and I didn't get my beloved mayo! My cravings for greasy food is honestly worse than my cigarette cravings. Nuts huh?!

Even though I know I am not overweight, I know I am unhealthy and on my way to being overweight. I can't even begin to imagine the sadness and insecurity of people battling obesity but, I know the feeling of battling those cravings. Now is the time to do something about it. Finding out the horrible facts about processed foods and how I was eating my entire days worth of needed calories in one meal sometimes has really been a motivator to stay positive and keep me on track.

Good for you for becoming healthy! It doesn't matter what you weigh if you feel crap, it's no fun. I'm so impressed you quit smoking and have changed your lifestyle. Great job!

It's not all about losing, it's about health too.

I quit smoking after smoking for 6 years (I am 22) and getting my dietary health on track just felt like what should be next. I'm really glad you're feeling better about yourself!
  • Congratulations!! You should be feeling better about yourself. :flowerforyou:

I'm sure that the nicotine and fast food cravings won't disappear overnight but you are obviously motivated to change.

Good luck and keep up the great work!

Good for you, I am always impressed be people who realise early enough that things aren't the way they should be and do something about it there and then, rather than letting yourself get hugely overweight like I did. You will be setting such a good example to your daughter too.

Keeping track of what you eat helps. It really does get easier to eat well. You'll soon reach a point where the nasty feeling you get when you eat those greasy foods just won't be worth the misery. Been there, done that. Good luck and God bless!
