Way over calories - a pizza-related disaster zone

Hi everyone,
i tried to do a search on this topic but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for...
basically I had a bit of a "moment" tonight and caved to having 3 slices of delicious pizza (which I really enjoyed):blushing: , but unfortunately I have gone over my 1200 net allowance by 850 calories :noway: !!!!
Anyway... of course I'm stressing a bit because being a smaller person it's taking me ages to lose weight as it is! :grumble:
What I want some opinions on is... tomorrow is it possible to exercise some back and not eat my full 1200 net so that it balances out over the 2 days (ie 2400 cals net), without going into starvation ? I know people will say "tomorrow is a new day" :flowerforyou: but I would feel better about myself if I do something to compensate
Thanks in advance guys

Actually...have you ever heard of Zig-Zagging aka Calorie Alternating? The basic idea is eating high cal one day and then low cal the next. AND sometimes when you have a high cal day, it actually boosts your metabolism. Soooo...seriously, you'll be okay! Definitely exercise tomorrow...that's always helpful.
PS-Tomorrow's a new day0 -
LOL!
Thank you. Sometimes I feel very OCD about the whole thing and I need someone to say "it's cool".
I'm sure my boyf thinks I'm a little crazy....:embarassed:0 -
Yes, compensate for the calories. :flowerforyou: I find that increasing my exercise is a good way to compensate. I too have caved in with pizza. :grumble: I have only been doing this for a month. I agree with Happenstance. Calo
Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Food Diaryrie Alternating does work. Hang in there! :blushing: We all need each other.0 -
I've done this, too, and I always try to compensate with both diet and exercise the following day.
The most important thing though, is to learn a new way to satisfy that "crave." Next time you're confronted with the situation, savor 2 small slices of pizza and then add a serving of string beans or spinach!
It's a journey!0 -
I say forget it, take this moment, learn from it, and continue on. Maybe next time you feel the urge, stop, turn away from the food, and think about it for a good minute. Ask yourself if it's worth it. If you do that, and still feel like it's ok to indulge, then by all means, do so. Your diet shouldn't be a jail cell, it should be your guideline. You're not going to gain 5 lbs by going over a few hundred calories once in a great while, just try to make it the rather uncommon exception, rather then the rule. it's the long term failures that make us heavier, not a 1 night indulgence.0

I say what is the big deal? I eat pizza every Friday, and am still losing the weight! You might show a water gain due to sodium, but drink lots of water, and you'll be fine. Eat your normal calories today and don't worry about it. But, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and exercise more. But not necessary... lol0

To funny, we eat pizza every Friday too! We do homemade. I realized I could still eat pizza just not the amounts of it I was eating. 2 or even 3 slices instead of the 5 or 6 I would eat before.
I have to know, does the Portside still have good pizza and the best breadsticks with that yummy cheese spread? That is one of those places I miss. Oh and Vangos too!0 -

We do the friday night pizza thing too! We buy frozen ones though, and bulk them up with extra veggies. so yummy :flowerforyou:0 -

I agree with happenstance, from my own experience with going over and under on some days. I will go out for pizza once in awhile and I am steadily lost pounds. I didn't "plan" to alternate or go over or under, but for me, that is what has happened. I workout 6 days a week most every week, since Oct 6. But only after I learned to eat the extra calories and drink water, did I start losing the weight. I dont' ignore the "numbers" on this site or others I check, but I use them as a "gage" to know where I am at. I am usually either a couple hundred over or most often atleast 100 under. By the way, look at my ticker:) I am about the same as you as far as my goal. I started at 137 and now down to 130.
:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
PS I drink atleast 96 oz of water most days(6 or of 7 as I might get behind on it once in awhile). Usually and extra 8 oz or two if I get into something high calorie like pizza or candy like I did at christmas. I didn't gain any weight at Christmas, zero, and I ate m&m's,. fudge, pie, you name it:)
denise in OR
PS I truly believe if we are doing this right, we will enjoy it. If we aren't having fun and feeling good, something is wrong. TV/media "diets" usually sound like some sort of "torture" club we have to join to lose weight. What a lie that is. LIke that woman going off to wherever sippin on her Slimfast drink? I would have no energy if that's all I had to "eat". Sorry but those ads downright p___ me off:explode: People are dying from lack of knowledge and "quick-fix-diets", as well as surgeries I tell everyone I see about this site so they can learn the truth about fitness and nutrition.0 -

Yup, Portside is still delish, but my DH makes the cheese spread at home. That cheese spread tastes soooo much better on homemade soft breadsticks. I find the ones at the Portside ok, but a little too chewy. Vangos has the best Margurita (sp?) pizza! And I love their gyros! You'll have to come home, and we'll have to do a tour of all the yummy places in town! lol... By the way, it's winter carnival at Tech! lol0 -

Ours is usually frozen as well. Lately we've been loving the DiGiorno stuffed crust 5 cheese pizza. We throw on tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, black and green olives, and pepperoni. Oh, and sprinkle with garlic powder. Sooooo yummy. I find that when we get the "good/more expensive" pizza, I tend to eat less, only 1/4 of the pizza instead of the half a pizza I can snarf of the cheaper thin crust kinds.0 -

Your DH makes the cheese spread! Are you going to share the recipe? I love to make breadsticks and that cheese spread would be great!
Winter Carnival is fun. I haven't been there for a long time. I've been thinking I need to go up and visit my mom and get some cheese (Imported Parm & Asiaggo) from Andriacchi's in Ishpeming. Have you ever been there?0 -
I did the same thing last night, but it was with my mom's home cooking... baked chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and GRAVy galore.... And 2 - yes 2 pieces of chocolate cake...
It's the first day in the nearly 2 weeks since I started here that I've done that, and frankly, I'm not going to write it up. I enjoyed every bite.
I'm back on the wagon this morning with oatmeal and a grapefruit for b-fast, and planning a nice shrimp stirfry for dinner.
Best of luck getting back on as soon as you fall off - I think that's the real key (and the hard part).

Thanks everyone for the great comments. It really helps to have all this wonderful support.
NWCountryGal - it's so good to see someone wth similar goals). I too ate "well" (ie slightly indulgently) over christmas and actually had lost weight by the beginning of January...
LOL! Sodium! The pizza was neopolitana so had olives and anchovies (I love salty foods). We ordered it"slim style" which at our local italian means slim base and absolute minimum cheese, so calories were probably a little lower than I worked out but I think I should probably drink 25 gallons of water today to account for all that salt! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
I am enjoying this journey. I love taking care of myself. Sometimes I just get a bit "obsessed" or "high maintenance" about it. A part of me believes you've got to be a little bit to keep yourself in line.
I had the pizza with the intention of it being a "cheat" or treat meal, but afterwards I went into a bit of a panic about it.
This morning I've started over, and will go to the gym as unsual on a sunday for me and do by best.
:drinker: :happy:0
