I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome when I was 18 years old. I was crushed to learn that it was possible that I wouldn't be have kids and that my weight had directly affected my reproductive future. I had crazy periods since I started menstrating, sometimes a month long, sometimes without one for seven months, all over the place really. I usually had a cyst about once every two monthsthat always caused me pain that I would have to go in and get removed or have it blasted. With my hormones all over the place, I'd easily gain eight to ten pounds every period that I did get just in water weight.

I've lost sixteen pounds in the past 40 days through dieting and exercise and using MFP. This time around, I had a 32 day cycle! FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY ENTIRE LIFE SOMETHING ABOUT ME IS NORMAL AGAIN! Ahhh! :D I haven't had a cyst the entire time either and I haven't been bloated or anything for the first time too!

  • rock on, girlie! That's really great. I have a friend going through the same thing (PCOS) and luckily after some medicating and hormone therapy, they're expecting that she'll be able to conceive soon! And if not, they're going to go to IVF to get pregnant. It's definitely not the be-all end-all for makin' babies. And hey, at least you can have fun *trying* :)

Keep up the great work, sweetheart!
  • THANK YOU! I've never been so excited to have a period! Haha

PCOS can be a real battle. Isn't it amazing what good nutrition, exercise and taking care of oneself can do?
I wad diagnosed with PCOS years ago, had infertility issues but went on to have two healthy boys.
    Sometimes normal is awesome!
