Personal Record BROKEN!

Ok, this isn't saying much!

But for the last year I've been so focused on strength training and sprinting intervals that I have competely disregarded the elliptical! After listening to my trainer yell at me for not mixing my cardio up, I decided to try this machine from hell! And, literally I believe that if there is a hell, it is filled with ellipticals, The Yearling, and designer high heeled shoes that haven't been broken in yet! (The last two are completely not related to exercise!)

So a few weeks ago I tried this piece of crap and MAYBE made it for 5 minutes before I wanted to throw up in my mouth! Tonight, on the other hand, I made it 20 minutes before I wanted to throw up! Next goal - 30 minutes!!!!

I just want to know how does someone in semi-decent shape struggle SO much with that stupid machine???? And please don't say it's a cardio endurance issue, I can get on the treadmill for 90 minutes straight and then go to the bike for another hour before deciding that I'm good!

  • I cannot do ellipticals. My feet don't go that way. I can walk 3 miles through the mountains but can't do 5 minutes on one of those things. I don't know what it is.

i have a gazelle which has a similar motion and yes!! it eats me up alive but i kick my feet and swing my arms like there's no tomorrow. lol i also noticed that if i work out during my fave shows, it goes by like nothing, or music... that's a fun one. trying to exercise to the beat is challenging and hella fun.

I can run, but can barely make it 5 minutes on an elliptical, so it's totally not just you

I think it takes time and you are approaching it correctly by working up to it. When I started working out again regularly in April I could barely do 5 minutes. Now, 7 months later, I can get through an hour. Not that it's easy! You can torch a lot of calories on it so don't give up!

The calorie burn is the only reason I keep trying! Seriously, I burned more calories in 20 minutes on the elliptical tonight, than in 30 minutes of sprinting intervals on the treadmill! I was hella impressed!

Yup. And if you you choose fast beat music it makes you go faster whether you want to or not. LOL
  • I love the elliptical!! I put on music I love to dance to (which is usually latin music LoL) and go to town! have you tried doing it in reverse? that's a killer but it feels so good afterwards and doing the ellipitcal I have seen a huge difference in my legs. Keep it up girl you're doing wonderful

I love the elliptical! I even purchased one for my house, it's a awesome burn! First time I tried it I couldn't last more than 3 minutes, got scared and wouldn't try it again for a few more months. Now I can go up to a hour and the calories burned can't be beat! It's a great workout even if you're only doing 15-20 minutes.
  • Juat want to share...

Tonight I almost doubled that 20 minutes and made it 37! I probably could have kept going but my boyfriend was being all whiny about missing south park...

and yes, I realize that is super weird!!!! But i'm still hella stoked about 37 minutes tonight AND I burned almost as many cals as going for a 1.5 hour walk!!!!!
