Am Pregnant - need help!

Hey all,
I was moving along great for about a week - losing a little weight, but just found out on Thursday that I'm pregnant! I reset all my goals and stuff to gain weight slowly. I set my goals to gain .2 lbs a week through the first trimester, and then will up it again later to about 1 lb a week.
Has anyone else used this tool to gain weight practically during pregnancy or am I crazy?
Last time I was pregnant, I gained 31 lbs in 31 weeks - not what you're supposed to do, and I don't want to do it again. My baby died at 31 weeks gestation... I really hope I get to bring this one home. :frown: It was horrible to lose my son...
So should I just quit out of this place, or keep tracking? Any other preggos out there?
My BMI is really healthy right now - 21.3, so I'm on a "normal" weight gain schedule (I think!).
Thanks,
WendyJ

Hi, I am not pregnant...but I was pregnant and lost the baby this summer...I think whatever you decide to do is just fine...just make sure you take care of yourself...you are the best judge of that. I don't think watching your weight will hurt...It might make you feel better and more in control. I am so sorry you lost your son. Congratulations on becoming pregnant :flowerforyou: I am so happy for you
Good Luck

I would try to stay healthy, but not try to manage the weight gain. I don't even think I would try to track it. I always viewed pg as a time when you could eat what you wanted and give in to the cravings. You can lose the weight after the baby is born (I'm still working on that part LOL).
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Have a safe, happy, and healthy 9 months!0 -
Using this tool to focus on eating healthfully can't be a bad thing I think. I'm not pregnant, and never have been so I can't relate really, but as long as you're eating well I think you'll be great! My hopes and prayers are with you through this pregnancy. Wish you all the best and congratulations!:flowerforyou:0

I am very sorry for your loss :frown: :flowerforyou: but I am very happy for you, that you are pregnant again. I think you should speak to your doctor about the specifics of your diet and about how much you should aim to gain each week. Good luck to you!0

You need to talk to TamTastic.
You actually don't need to set your goals to gain weight, you can set them to maintain - particularly through your first trimester. Tami would know all the details though. I will try to dig up her preggo thread to see if it could be of any help to you.:flowerforyou:
However, pregnancy is NOT a time to eat whatever you want. It is a time to take care of yourself even more than you normally do, because of that little one inside who needs balanced nutrition and a healthy momma! :bigsmile:0 -
Just eat healthy avoid the foods you are supposed to avoid during pregnancy trust me when and if you suffer morning sickness it is not the best thing to sit and plan your meals as that could make it worse all I could eat with my daughter for 15 weeks was tomato soup granola bars and croqette potatoes anything else would make me hurl then came the second trimester when I became anemic I lived of liquorice and dark choc high in iron third trimester which is the only time during pregancy that you actually need to gain fat stores ready for breastfeeding and it is only around 200 cals a day however then you have to deal with your stomach being squished again make sure that you eat quality foods where you can when you are breastfeeding it is around 500 cals extra so I think you just need to maintain you dont want to have to deal with post baby bulge if you can help it. By the way may daughter came out a healthy 9lb 8oz @ 38 weeks gestation.
Remember if you eat for two quantity wise you will have weight to lose after no big deal but if you are sensible you will be able to spend the time after your baby is born getting back into normal clothes feeling good about yourself and not having to spend hours working out. I was miserable after my daughter was born because I had no clothes to wear and working out when I was breast feeding was a little scary (boob size) then I got pregnant again and 2 1/2 years on still miserable trying to lose weight if only I had tried harder just to maintain when pregnant but hey I am doing now and thats what counts.
Your body is good a surviving and the baby will get nutrients first not you so just try to enjoy I am so sorry about the loss of your other little one and good luck with this little en.
Being pregnant is a truly magical time enjoy enjoy enjoy.0 -
When I was pregnant I ended up having gestational diabetes. The diabetes diet made me eat really healthy and made me avoid sugar items.
I only gained 1 pd. from 28 weeks to 37 weeks..........I gained 25 pounds total. So my dr. was kinda glad that I turned out to be diabetic so my weight gain would slow down.
I was on a 2000 calorie diet - balanced meals and 2 snacks during the day. No sweets.0 -
Congrats on your pregnancy, and i'm so sorry to her about your son.
As i have had 4 kids, my last one being 9.5 months old now, i barely gained any weight with any of them, 1st was only 15 lbs, but then she was 6 weeks premature, 2nd pregnancy 20 lbs, mind you those 2 are now 14 and 12 and my 3rd was 22 lbs (she will be 3 in march)and my 4th was only 17 lbs, i ate the way i normally did before, i always watched what i ate to begin with, i just don't gain alot when pregnant, but i know other people that also eat healthy and watch what they eat and gain 35 lbs, it all depends on your body, so just make sure you eat healthy and just enjoy you pregnancy and don't worry about how much you gain as long as you are eating right and like someone else said, worry about what weight you do gain after the baby is here.
My Dr was never concerned about the little amount of weight i gained as it was what my body did,(also, i am only 5 ft tall) your Dr, will let you know if she is concerned about your weight.
So don't worry about your weight and Have a HAPPY AND HEALTHY 9 months!!0
