I was thinking about getting a Bodyfit etc, but I wanted to see what 24 hours would be like with my HRM. I taught a 45 minute spin class, and walked the dog for 20 minutes, but I had wisdom teeth pulled and ended up sitting around the second half of the day. Exactly 24 hours after I started my calories were 2970. This is including the spin class of course. Is this high? Should I be eating a lot during the day? Any idea how accurate this could be or what it means. I have the info, and now don't know what to do with it. I have to rest today from the surgery, so I'm interested to see what today brings.

It's not accurate at all.. HRM's are not designed to be worn during rest.. Only during exercise when your heart rate is elevated.
If you want to figure out all day calorie expenditure, then you need a bodybugg/body media fit/fit bit.0 -
HRM's are not accurate while not performing cardio exercise, as the calculation embedded in the machine assumes a certain oxygen uptake that does not occur unless your HR is elevated.
If you want a device that will tell you cals burned all day you need either a Fitbit or Bodybugg.0 -

Hehe I tried to do that at work one day. By the time I was off and had to take a long walk the battery had died on me
. When I wore mine it did not count any calories burned when my heart rate was less than 95 bpm so if you burned calories it must be at higher heart rate so all the calories you burned should be accurate. It is not recommended to use heart rate monitor to monitor calories burned when not exercising. A high heart rate at rest does not give high calories burned for people that have higher heart rate. I actually ordered a body bugg. It is between a few hours to two days away from me now in shipping. I live in Sweden and tracking and it has been tracked to Sweden so far. I am so excited
. You should get the bodyfit if you like monitoring numbers.

I too wore my HRM all day just to see what would happen
I subtracted my workout and my sleep and found, on myself that I used 1680 calories (without exercise) that was just sitting at my desk working, getting the kids ready for school, making dinner.
But I agree with everyone else. It’s not accurate. Mine was just a “test”0
