I would have to eat something before then and probably something again afterward. The more I exercise the more I eat. I love it.

yeah, you need energy... I suggest eat something light before with carbs. After, eh I usually go for protien. Need to repair muscles...

I agree with Thena, you'll want to eat something before so you'll have energy to exercise properly and you'll probably be hungry after too.

It doesn't matter... whenever you want as long as you hit your net goals for the day.

I would eat dinner around 6 then a snack afterwards. Everyone is different though...

Hmmm I don't know, I usually do my work outs in the morning, but I always have breakfast first, and a snack about a half hour to hour after...so maybe dinner before and a small snack afterwards, if you're hungry.
  • I was planning on chicken, salad and rice so maybe i should have the rice now and then the chicken and salad after?
  • I always eat something a couple of hours before exercising and then after to ensure I've eaten back what I've done to ensure I'm not losing anything.. I can't exercise properly if I don't eat beforehand and often ache worst in the morning if I don't eat afterwards xx

Since there's no actual reasoning/science in this thread...

Studies show that it doesn't matter for the average person. Food takes so long to digest and nutrients stay in our system so long that the lunch you eat today will still be available as an energy source tonight when you work out, and to repair muscles afterwards.

Unless you are doing some insane amount of exercise, you'll be fine eating as your normally would.

    that sounds good to me...
I have my carb in the morning... 6:30ish usually a bagel thin with light cream cheese... then after my work out around 10 am I have usually a 2 egg omelet and and apple
carb before protein after to help repair muscle :D

I don't like to eat within an hour of going to the gym, especially if I'm doing cardio because I tend to get stomach cramps, which makes for an unpleasant workout.

    when hungry

I second this comment. There are so many different theories out there about when to eat, when not to eat, what to eat, etc. But really comes down to "are you REALLY hungry? Do you feel you are lacking energy?" If you are hungry, then vegetables would sound good to you.

Don't just eat to eat, your body will tell you if you need the nutrients before AND/OR after the workout.

    Good luck tonight!

Bananas are good fuel before a workout, if you feel you need to eat a small snack before so. There is the dietary fiber, the sugars and complex carbohydrates for energy throughout the workout, and potassium as well.

I wish I could copy and paste stuff but I can't, so you can look it up if you'd like-it's like a natural gatorade. Just look it up on the mayo-clinic website, there are also other food options as well.

I've also read on various respectable sites that your body burns calories at a higher rate about 30min-1hr after a good workout, so basically as others have said: both. Eat before, or eat after whichever you prefer.
