So... yesterday I caved. I ate 3 homemade crossaints which were 1089 calories altogether (I can't believe how high in calories those suckers are! They weren't even that big! (and it didn't help my husband made super yummy lasagna last night... and no I couldn't stop at one piece! I feel terrible!

I had surgery on Friday, and due to a power outage at the hospital (!) I didn't get home until 7pm at that was the first time I was aloud to eat/drink since about 9pm the night before. I think my body was so starved that yesterday I tried to make up for it... my stitches are killing me (I ended up back at the hospital last night) so I just wanted comfort food to feel better. I know I shouldn't have. I've been soooo good this last month so I really let January go with a bang! :(

Stepped on the scale today and it says 2.5 pounds more than last weeks weigh in weight (but it did say the same yesterday morning, before my binge) I had two IV bags so I know that I'm retaining a bit of water...

My little day finisher thing at the bottom said that if everyday were like yesterday I would have gained 1 pound in 5 weeks... so if I just stop thinking about it and get back on track!

What kind of surgery did you have? Surgery will often cause you to hold water... especially if they pumped you up with fluids from an IV or cut you (swollen and repairing tissue)

1000 calories sounds bad, but it's really not as bad as you may think - takes 3500 calories to gain a pound. It was one day (right??) It's not the end of the world - if you are already eating 500 calories less than your maintenance calories (weight loss mode) then you really only went over by 500 calories. All things considered, 500 calories isn't THAT MUCH. Hop back on track, leave this behind you.... you enjoyed those croissants, right?!

Perhaps you'll only lose half a pound this week instead of one or two.

That is right, just get back on track. One day does not have to set you back completely. Good luck, you CAN do it!
  • everyone slips up now and again, it's how you recover from it that makes the difference. Dont let it destroy what you're trying to do and dont use it as an excuse to slip up again and you'll be fine. You should try to remove the words "comfort food" from your dietary vocab... they're a deadly combination. Not that I dont understand, I do... I just think it's words like that that allow us to feel comfortable with eating the wrong things but in the end theres no comfort in it at all, just calories that make us overweight and keep us down.

When you pass up that turn you're supposed to make in your car, the GPS doesn't call you stupid or say that you might as well keep heading straight, since you messed up. Nope, it says, "make your next available U-Turn." Sounds like it is time to make a U-Turn and get back on track. Don't be too hard on yourself. We all get off our route once in a while, the key is to not stay lost and get back on track.

Here is how Dr. OZ puts it:

    Make "you-turns."
When you make a nutritional mistake, think of the advice your GPS gives you when you miss a turn: "At the next available moment, make an authorized U-turn." Then get back on the right road.
