I am SO ashamed of how unfit I am.

I managed 10 mins altogether uphill on the treadmill (I have never set foot on one before) going from 3mph to 7mph and down and up again if that makes sense. I thought I was going to keel over :|

I was dripping with sweat, couldn't breathe in as deeply as I wanted and felt ridiculously light headed for about 45mins afterwards..

.. I am going to go back and have another go tomorrow

It will get easier! After 5 times, it will feel like you have been doing it your whole life!

This got a giggle out of me... reminds me of a boy who walked into the kitchen all muddy talking about a big fight he was in and grabbing a cookie and heading back out for more with a big smile on his face!

That-a-way! You keep it up, you'll be proud of yourself in no time.

Don't focus on the past. You are making a change towards your future! I think back to a year ago and I wasn't able to go up the stairs without huffing and puffing. NOW I'M RUNNING!!!!! It's hard work, but you can do this!

We all start there. And we all on the same path more or less. Just at different points of the same path. That fit lady you notice is the same as you. Just further along. That's it.

7 mph is way too fast especially for a beginner. I have lost 25 pounds and the only exercise I do is 4 mph at an incline of 6 for half hour 4 to 5 times a week.

You seem to have the right attitude overall. Don't be embarrassed, we all have to start somewhere and it will improve, probably rather quickly for you. Don't be afraid to sweat and get tired either. That is the goal after all. You should be breathing heavy, sweating like crazy and feeling exhausted by the time you get off the treadmill. Then a short time later, usually after a good meal, you'll be screaming with energy. Just stick with it and just focus on your progress. The only person you should be comparing your self to or competing with is yourself.
  • I think you might be right tbh it probably was too fast for my first try.

I have just stopped feeling at all lightheaded and currently feel more awake than I remember feeling for quite a while. Useful an hour before bedtime lol

I agree, 7 mph is pretty fast! I feel like I'm really running at 5.5, but then I'm 5'03, so on the short side.

When I started out, I did intervals. Walk for 5 minutes to warm up, then jog (not sprint!) for two minutes with no incline, then up the incline all the way and slow down to a walking pace for two minutes, then bring the incline all the way back down to zero and walk for one minute. Do these 5 minute intervals 3 or 4 times, then walk a few minutes to cool off. You'll get a great workout and won't risk injury as much, which can be common when starting out. If something hurts - stop! Walk it off, or quit altogether, it's not worth putting yourself out of commission for a few weeks just to push through a workout.

Good luck! You've done the hard part, taking the first step.
  • Congratulations ! I felt the same when I did my treadmill first time. After half year I could walk 20 minutes with incline 15 and 4mph. Keep doing it, and you will be surprised how quick results come.
  • thanks, I am going to go over there a little earlier this time and hopefully that energetic feeling can be put to good use

7mph? Do you mean km? treadmills are in km... Its hard to run at 7mph for a lenght of time, so if you walked it for 10 mins then I'm not supprised you were feeling lightheaded... Ease up next time, go for 4mph(6km) and see how it goes... :flowerforyou:
