Calling All Runners....

I'll be running my first 5k on Thanksgiving this year (TD5K Minneapolis). I'm very excited but also nervous. Do any of you seasoned runners out there have any advice for this first timer? Any and all help is welcome.

I've only done 4 or 5 5K's so not exactly a seasoned runner, but the best advice I can give you is HAVE FUN. I usually do the charity run/walks which tend to draw a decent crowd of both runners and spectators. Enjoy it, have fun.. and celebrate when you cross the finish line. Don't worry about your time. Your first one it doesn't matter.0

Train for the full 3.1 miles so you will have the confidence in yourself and you'll know that you can definitely do it. I am not agreat runner. I'll never win but I always finish running. Set a time goal for yourself and try to hit that goal.....and oh yeah, if you're a girl, wear a pad so you don't pee your pants! Seriously!!!! Have fun and enjoy the run. There is no better feeling than crossing that finish line! Remember that no matter what your time is, you are a winner for just getting off your butt and doing it!!!0

Fnd a good rhythm so your breathing and stride are in sync. It may sound hard, but its not, just listen to your body and feel it out. Besides that, HAVE FUN!!!0

Pace yourself... so you don't burn out too early and enjoy it.0

I echo the people who say HAVE FUN! You will! The night before your race make sure you hydrate and get enough rest. Don't eat anything "unusual" for you race morning. In other words don't change your diet up before a race. Start out a little slow until you get your pace but other than that, relax and enjoy. Races are fun!0

Number goes on your front, line up at the back of the pack (unless you are fast) and have fun!0

the other tip i would say, night before drink a couple glasses of water, day of the race drink another glass. Walk at the Water stations so you don't spill water on yourself.0
