hey everyone! new here. so a little intro- basically as a child i was always skinny. like stick thin. in high school i was an average weight- 5'4 and about 130 pounds. then came college. they said be ready to pack on the "freshman 15". yea well i packed on 30. so essentially im 22, 5'4 and 160 pounds. and according to my BMI, im overweight. i may not look it, but i sure as heck feel it...im not as active as i used to be. in high school i figure skated for almost a year but haven't done sports since then. now that ive graduated from college, im not active in general. i HATE exercising. and i find it hard to be consistent with these diets. so i basically downloaded this app to my phone, made a zumba playlist on youtube to dance to every morning, do a little yoga, etc. its been about 3 days and so far so good. i need encouragement because its so hard to keep on track. i'm west indian and our foods arent the healthiest meals out there...it sucks to have your family cook a huge west indian meal every sunday and you can only eat so much...food to me is like pringles. once you pop you just cant stop. i LOVE candy and sweets. i eat when im bored, happy, sad, watching tv, etc. im always in the fridge. im not big on junk food (besides candy). i rarely eat fast food which is a good thing, but im addicted to bread, crackers, take out, sushi, nutella, crepes and going to restaurants. and the fact that i cant cook doesnt help the situation. i actually wants to lose 30 pounds for now. i dont want to be skinny, i just want to be healthy, fit and 130lbs which i think is perfect for me. its sooo easy to gain weight and sooo hard to lose it. its frustrating and annoying. i havent been happy with my weight in a long time and im finally ready to fix it.
my friends for the most part are happy with their weight. and my family varies in size and they are content with how they look. with the holidays coming up im trying to keep my eye on the goal i set for myself.
sorry for the long post

Welcome!
Girl, we alll have the same story. We all love to eat and get lazy
that's why we're here on this post. For me I try to post my food
and excercise all thru the day so I know how many calories I
have left to eat. If I work out I get extra FOOD!! I can't seem
to stick to a work out program either so I'm just going out for
walks. Instead of driving to my mail box store I walked today
and earned 429 cals!! That's awesome and really easy to do.
Watch ur calories and go for a walk. You can do it!
God Bless!!0 -
sounds a lot like me when i first started. Im not that far in but i felt the same it was so hard and i loved so many things and i ate like you bordem, stress, sad, watchin tv. I also found myself starting diets but not sticking to them, and getting myself to exercise was sooo hard. Trust me it gets easier im only a few months in but my life style now is very different to when i began. Not as good as i want it to be but certainly better! add me if you like i'll give u some support.0

You've made the first step of signing up. Your story sounds just like me. At 23 I was 25 pounds overweight. I tried every diet I could think of, but found it hard to give up my favorites! I love pasta and bread! A friend told me about this site and 3 months later I was down 20 pounds. Its all about portion control. Go out and buy a nice food scale. I spent about $25 and I use it religiously. You can still have the foods you like, just beware how much you are consuming. If you eat 1 bite size snickers, record it. Its easy to think that 40 or 50 calories here and there don't matter but they add up fast. If you know you have a Sunday dinner, do a little extra work out that day. Eat something small and healthy before so you aren't famished when you get there. After weighing your portions out for awhile, it will be easier to judge when you are away from your scale. Also, check out Hungry Girl. She has some awesome recipes for guilt free swaps of your favorite foods. Love her brownies. I made here sweet and sour chicken tonight and it was a huge portion for 300 calories. I couldn't even finish it all! Good luck. You can do it!0

thanks a lot for the tips! i should definitely invest in a food scale. great idea. i will definitely check out her recipes. thank u so much0 -
Don't feel bad we all have to start at some place. And congradulate yourself in that you did start which is the most important step. I have 50 pounds to loose and have just started myself. My weight gain was caused by a car accident which threw off my body and made me have a high desire for sugars. Checked with drs at the time and all they did was say to not eat it and they never bothered to look into it in more detail. Now that its fixed I have the weight to loose. I am just glad it got fixed and I didn't have to fight it all the rest of my life. I found this program great because it is also showing me that one of the meats I like has a high sodium level which may have been contributing to my sugar issues. Today I even ended with over 100 calories I could use but didn't!!! Hang in there you will make it.0
