You can visit the website to read articles and success stories etc for the national weight control registry. The address is nwcr.ws (I just google national weight control registry)
This is a sight completely dedicated to the LARGEST study of individuals with successful LONG TERM maintenance of weight loss.
Members have to have lost at least 30lbs and kept it off for a minimum of one year, however the average member has lost 66lbs and kept it off for 5.5 years. Averages show weight losses from 30-300lbs, duration of maintenance has been 1-66 years, some lost the weight rapidly others took up to 14 years to loose excess weight.
MOST COMMON FACTORS
78% eat breakfast EVERYDAY
75% WEIGH in at least ONCE PER WEEK
62% watch less than 10 hours of tv per week
90% exercise for about an hour a day
45% have lost the weight on their own 55% have used some type of program
98% modified their food intake
94% increased their physical activity, main activity reported was walking
80% of registry members are women, avg. age is 45 and 145lbs
20% men, avg age 49 weight 190
So here is proof that we have to exercise, eat right, turn off our tv's and actually step on a scale to monitor our progress (although I do take measurements too, and I highly recommend everyone take their measurements).
We are all here and this is part of our weight loss "program". We can all do this! :drinker:
