Breastfeeding and losing weight?

My daughter is 10 weeks old, and we exclusively breastfeed. I am just starting my weight loss journey, with a goal of 70lbs to lose. I plan on doing it slow and steady, no crash diets or whatever. anyone have any advice on how to do this effectively? i can't really "diet" while breastfeeding (supposed to eat 300 extra calories a day), so i'm not sure how to go about this. more exercise? healthier food choices? any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I think if you don't eat the 'extra' you'll lose weight..but go easy...baby comes first....fat can go later!!
Go for a walk pushing the stroller or pram EVERYDAY if weather premits or go to the shops for airconditioned comfort!!
All the very best with your new bub...enjoy

At only 10 weeks post partum, the simplest route would be to set your goal at maintenance and then let the breastfeeding calories + some light exercise (if you have the time, ha!) be your deficit.

The best way to exercise is with your baby, I have a 12 week old who I carry in a sling when I go walking (you burn heaps of extra calories that way!) & there are also a few strengthening exercises you can do using your baby as a weight you should be able to google mum and baby yoga and find some ideas. Breastfeeding shouldn't be an issue, just make sure you drink enough fluids to replace what you'll lose by exercising. Healthy food will also help but if your house is anything like mine there are chaotic days where you just grab what you can & hope for the best :-) feel free to add me
  • thank you everyone! i definitely do not eat the extra calories :-/ and i have been having supply issues so i believe that is a part of it, i KNOW i need to somehow incorporate them.

I do wear my baby, all the time in the moby! i also have an 18 month old so things are hectic around here and i feel so lazy all the time. it makes me not want to exercise. i just keep telling myself that if i do, i will have more energy and taking care of them won't be so difficult.

i've also heard that exercising can turn your milk sour? i mean i know it's not "bad" but it alters the taste? you'd have to do quite a bit of exercise for that to happen, no?
