Diet Soda or Crystal Light

I was wondering which one is better for you or if they're both rated the same. My Mother in law and I always argue about this so i wanted to get your opinions. she says that crystal light is better for you and isn't as bad as diet pop and I say its the same. Also do both count for your water intake or neither?

    is your diet pop caffeine free? THe sweetener is the same so caffeine would swing me.

    My understanding is that they are both the same due to the artificial sweetener. It supposedly alters your desire for more sweets- makes you crave more. Hope this helps!:ohwell:

    You could say that diet soda is worse since the phosphoric acid binds to calcium in the digestive tract and prevents it from being absorbed, so it could be linked to bone loss. Both contain artificial sugars, and what they might cause is still up in the air.

    Thats what I thought is that they were both the same. I'll try to stay clear from both of them, maybe once a week or something and just TRY to stick to real water.

    I personally only count water or clear, decaf liquids (like decaf green tea) in my water count - nothing with sweeteners, artificial or otherwise. Since diet soda and chrystal light both have artificial sweeteners - that's a strike against them both. Since diet soda has carbonation and the dark ones have caffiene, I'd have to say the Crystal light wins...

    artificial sweeteners---they equal out
    caffiene--some soda has none, some crystal light has some--they probably equal out
    phosphate in soda inhibit your ability to absorb calcium--Crystal wins on this one
    Some of the new Crystal flavors have fiber or antioxidants--Crystal wins again if you care about those


    Over all, I think Crystal Light will win. But, I don't think it makes that big a difference. Either one in moderation is ok.
