I Don't Understand What My Body Is Doing!!!

Hello Pals!!

I have been BUSTING MY LOVELY LADY LUMPS!! and have successfully lost 11 lbs, increased my water intake and have been very good about my eating, however I'm getting discouraged because I have gained back 3 lbs. Now 2 weeks ago I went to Jamaica and endulged in a lot of adult beverages and good food!! but I still lost weight. Well when I returned to the states I resumed my previous routine or working out and eating right. Is Jamaica just now catching up with me? I don't know what my body is doing!!

I have a very athletic build 5'3 AND A HALF, and by no means looks like I weigh 199.8 lbs, as I used to be big into sports, but gaining 3 lbs doesnt make since to me especially since I have been going harder in and outside of the gym!! I have not measured myself to see if I am losing inches, which I think is a possibililty b/c my BabyPhat jeans are now just fitting like Fat Jeans (all saggy in the front, ladies you know that part in the front, and in the back ugghh). My question is how do I get the numbers on the scale down? I have been doing a mix of strenght training and cardio. Am I focusing on an unimportant part in this process? I'm just a little frustrated, but still focused. Not to mention I have been at this for about 2 months.

I would step away from the scale and grab a tape to measure yourself.

It's very possible that you're losing inches and not weight. The inches are the important measurement and the scale is just a number. Nobody noticed your scale moving, but everyone will notice the inches leaving.

Just don't give up.. work through it and eventually the scale numbers will go down
  • TOM?
  • I feel you! My body reacts the same way. I'm into size 16 jeans now (yay!!!!), but the last time I was in 16's (college?), I weighed much less.

I have been at this since March. I told my doctor how frustrated I was that one the weeks I stepped up the exercise, I either lost less or didn't lose at all. My question to him? Should I STOP working out??? Ha ha!

    His answer was no. :)

It's the working out. You are toning up, losing inches, building muscle. The muscles you are working will store glycogen and water. Just keep it up!
  • You may be paying the price for what you ate and drank in Jamaica but I wouldn't worry about it too much if you're back on your normal routine now. You can be overWEIGHT without being overFAT. I too am very muscular--from track, weight training, backpacking with a 50-75 pound pack, etc. I'm 5'4, BTW.

I don't even really focus on measurements. For me, the proof is in the clothes. Since February, I've gone from a size 14 to a size 9--and can squeeze into an 8 if I don't want to breathe or sit down. :>) Seriously, would you rather achieve a specific weight or a specific size? For me, I want to get back to a size 7 or 8 which is what I wore when I looked my best. Doesn't matter how much I weigh. If I can fit into that size, I know I'll look good. Hope this helps!

Thanks Kristiranne...I didn't think of it that way, your right....no one is looking at the scale but me.. I will get a tape measurer and look into it

@Sryan - No TOM came by right after Jamaica; so about a week ago thats why I thought it was strange too...

It takes my body up to 2 weeks to see a gain after a vacation, perhaps step away from the scale for a bit, and focus on feeling good and getting stronger.

Give it a few more weeks. If there is still no progress, drop calories or increase activity

I agree that it can take a few days for the weight to stick to you, so it's likely that the vacation is giving you some memories to take with you.
