My friend wants to try calorie shifting.

Depends how low she goes and for how long. If its not anything extreme, it's fine. I do it all the time.
I change my daily net from 1300-1600 and everywhere in between quite often.0 -
If this is the same as calorie cycling or zig-zagging, sure! That's what I do. I don't worry about daily calories. Instead, I look at my weekly calories. I eat less on days I'm just not as hungry and bank those calories for later in the week for times when I happen to be hungrier or if I'm going to some kind of festivity where I just want to be able to treat myself with food that would normally be off-plan or just plain more healthy food or for whatever. My goal is to meet my weekly target, not my daily target. It works for me and keeps me from getting bored or feeling deprived.0

Sounds a lot like what Weight Watchers follows; banking points/calories for use during the week.0
