Getting off Medications

Has anyone been able to get off medications after losing a lot of weight? If so, I would love to hear your story. Was your doctor supportive of your decision? Were you successful, or did you find that your numbers (cholesterol levels, blood pressure) went back up despite the weight loss and that you needed to return to the medications? Thank you!

I am on Metformin for PCOS. My blood sugar level went from dangerously borderline diabetic to now an 88 after losing 50lbs. My Metformin has been cut down from 1700 to 850. With any luck by January I will have lost enough to hopefully go OFF the medicine! My doctor will still monitor my blood sugar every 3 months (as she does now) after going off the meds, but said as long as I continue doing what I'm doing she thinks I will not have to go back on it. Exciting!0

I am still on my medicine, but my husband lost over 20 lbs with MFP too and he got off his cholesterol, thyroid and blood pressure medicine and the doctor was very happy about it and told him that he just needs to come to his yearly physical. I was for my blood works yesterday and will get results next week, but for me it is still a long way to go, but by the end I hope to get off some of my medicine or get at least lower doses.0

I'm off all my diabetic meds, HBP meds in half and off my cholesterol. I did blood work for insurance and my total cholesterol was too low. A1C went from 9.5 to 5.5. Feel awesome.0

Hi, I'm no longer taking any medications but I do take vitamin supps
Was taking 3 different meds each day for diabetes. NO LONGER!!
NO LONGER taking cholesterol meds either.
Only thing elevating in my blood work is HDL level
I eat clean/ organic/ non processed food 90% of the time and I love to exercise (maybe I hate it but I've convinced myself that I love it)

I'm hopeful!!! My dr. is very cautious about doing so, but I will address the issue when more weight comes off.0

I was on Metformin, HBP meds and cholesterol meds.
Not any more
Didn't tell my Dr, although she obviously suggested that I make some changes. Just surprised here one day at my 6 month checkup when I showed up about 60 lbs lighter and had already wheened myself off all my meds
I now have a total clean bill of health!0 -
Was taking Metformin 1500mg and Glimipiride 4mg/day. After losing 50# I am no longer taking metformin, only taking 2mg of Glimipiride and my A1c went from 7.5 to 5.8 in a matter of 4 months.0
