I am wondering what the difference is in sizes... how this works...

is a 20 = to a size 40?
and a 22 = to a size 42?

I heard somewhere years ago that in fact
18 = 40?
and size 20 =42...
I can't find the info online it seems

anyone know?

    no womens size!

Some womens size jeans or clothing is size 34-36-38-40-42
where as others are like 14-16-18-20-22

at one time a 1 was a 21" waist, an 8 was a 28" waist, but now it is all vanity sizing (making sizing numbers smaller than the waist measurements, all to make customers happy that they are not a size what have you)

Don't even try. Jeans sizes just don't make sense. I can wear anything from 10 to 14.

Different companies are slightly different so you really can't compare. And 18 at one store or of one brand of jeans might be a 16 at another place or a 20 at a third place. Each manufacturer is different. Also, an 18 15 years ago is not the same as an 18 today even if it's the same brand/manufacturer.

Hmm. I think she's asking like pants sizes compared to dress sizes. I've seen women's jeans in the store (Forever 21 even!)labeled 28, 30, 32, etc. and I never know what size I am even though I'm normally a size 10 in clothing. I'd like the answer to this too!

It all varies from company to company. I'm usually a 8/9 in pants and a 28/29 in jeans if that helps!

You may have to google it, I had to a week ago.

I wear a size 7 in jeans and dress pants but a pair of jeans I wanted a week ago were in the size 24-32 range so I googled that and found that 28 was a size 6, 29 an 8. Still felt huge to me mentally considering most of the sizes at F21 were 24-25 so a 0-2 range but that's the age group you are in, I'm one of the "Forever 21" in spirit people ;)

ok that threw me off and confused me more! lol 30-31? lol

I see what she was saying, the spacing is throwing everything off. So for example if you are US size 10, you're a 30/31 in 7 for All Mankind, a 30 in AG Jeans, a 30 in True Religion...she has 7 US sizes, and 7 of each brand of jean, so you have to match up the 7th number in each row. It took me a minute! :)

I still don't understand why your pants would be a 40, though, that's confusing me! I was in a women's 22, now I'm almost in a 16. I don't know what that is in inches, but I know if I don't get 32" length I look like Erkel! My son is a stick boy and wears 28x32, and even the 28 is too big around his waist (those are Levi's and Wrangler measurements).

Amen! I was freaking out about sizes recently, but then I realized I have jeans that vary greatly in size because they are all different brands and cuts. It turns out the one I couldn't fit into apparently is notorious for running small, according to online reviews, so that made me feel better.

But then again, who cares? If they fit, and I feel good in them, should it matter what size they are?

I totally get where you're coming from, though. Clothes sizing seems to make very little sense, except to (presumably) those who make the clothing.

    i agree. i wear a 12 in some brands, 9 in another, and 6 in another. (and i KNOW i'm not a size 6!!!)

Could the '40' be a waist measurement? For example, I wear a US size 10 in most jeans, but some jeans (for example, I buy Ann Taylor Loft jeans) use waist/low waist measurements as the size, and my size 10 equivalent at this store is a '30'. Maybe this is what you're experiencing?
