What do you guys think about using the ab lounge? A friend gave me one and I was wondering if any one else on here uses it or should I just stick to crunches on the floor? Thanks!

The function of the ab muscles is to stabilize the spine. So if you want to train them directly, you have to flex the spine.

So floor crunches would be superior (if they are done right, most people don't), because the ab lounge keeps the spine neutral.

It's silly... But crunches aren't fantastic either. Consider planks or even an ab wheel for core.

No idea if you should, but I wouldn't mind trying one. I screwed up my back/shoulder pretty bad (I THINK) by doing crunches on the floor. Not 100% sure if that's what caused it, because I was doing them the right way I thought. But maybe an ab lounge could prevent such things? I dunno.

OOooo I haven't tried the ab wheel in years, but that thing was mean lol. I just do a serious of ab workouts from beachbody's ab ripper x now.

I have one and I HATE IT!! It hurts my back, I feel as if I'm doing it correctly for per the video..but its not for me. Good luck though, I would say whatever you like to do, make it work for you...in the mean time mine is in the basement holding boxes!! I do however use it every blue moon to stretch my body out real good hehehe

I have one and I LOVE IT! Thats all I use anymore for my abs. I used to do crunches with weights regular sit ups blah blah. I got on this machine and after about 10-15 reps my first time my abs were on FIRE unlike before. The more you stretch the more it works your lower abs and stretching feels good. I have figured out different ways to put your hands as well for a different work out. I will put them around the bar outside the strap and also another way is to put my thumbs in the holes and that changes the work out. You can feel it working differently. Honestly I love it and its very comfortable and smooth. You dont ever have to worry about messing up your neck or hurting your lower back like you can do with other excersises.

Edit: Maybe people dont feel it becaue they dont stretch back far enough and contract close enough. It still kicks my butt.

I had one given to me and I have always hated it! Never felt it no matter how much time I spent using it, and still trying to get rid of the thing. Basic crunches, bycyle crunches, oblique crunches...etc. etc. and just general cardio (running) seem to work better for me.
