Today is Armistice Day 11/11.

Please, take a moment to remember those we have lost in combat over the years and who gave "their today for your tomorrow"

Just a moment out of your day for your thoughts.

ALSO, if you feel like it ... go buy a poppy or make a donation to the Royal British Legion or other combat charity (RAF Benevolent fund, combat stress etc)

Thank you.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Valentina

Thank you for posting this. I say when you're buying your poppy, put as much money in as you can, and then, if you can, set up a standing order to the Legion as well.

    We will remember them.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

As an Army brat I had it drummed into me from an early age that giving 2 minutes to stop and think once a year was a tiny ask in comparison to the ultimate sacrifice many gave to allow me to have the luxury of the life that I have in this country.

I agree, put as much in the poppy tin as you can and take ten mintues to have a conversation with the veteran or the Cadet on the stall. It means more than we realise.

This is not mine but is author unknown...my Grandma sent it for my children....

    A Poem for Remembrance Day

"The inquisitive mind of a child"

poppyWhy are they selling poppies, Mummy?
    Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.

But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
    Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.

But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.

poppyThe heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.

But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.

''But the past is just the same and War's a bloody game. . . .

    Have you forgotten yet? . . .

Look down, and swear by the slain of the War that you'll never
    forget.''
