Okay yesterday my clumsy self went DOWN on the sidewalk :embarassed: Right on my knee and side, there was blood and mud everywhere, so go me lol My knee is fine just a little bruised, the only thing is that the muscle in my left thigh feels crazy. The muscle is tender and stiff feeling, don't think I messed it up really bad, just probably jarred from the fall. So the question is, should I work out today or not? Not really high intensity, just some cardio and upper body strength training. Will excercise make this feel better or worse? I've always noticed that when I'm sore, if I work out, it usually feels better afterwards.....

  • I would do whatever it is you feel comfortable doing. If it doesn't hurt to work out then work out... if it hurts dont do it and let your body tell you when you're ready.

I would work out, but keep it low impact and simple. Go for a power walk, you can speed up if you feel like, but I wouldn't try to run today at all. Alternate in some punching exercises- get in a good, low squat and just jab across your body, that will boost your heart rate too- and stay in that squat to work your abs & heart rate-twist your upper body only keeping your abs really tight. Then do some arm weights and crunches and things and a really good long stretch afterwards. Get on youtube and see if there is a yoga routine for sore/tight muscels. I bet there is.

You'll feel better after you do

muscles are easy to diagnose, as Matty said (and my college team doctor in football also said)
"if it hurts when you do that, don't do that."
  • yea I would definately do something, just to at least make you feel better and it should feel better once you've moved it around and such. you'll be alright. :drinker:

It is probably just a bruise, however when a pro athlete gets a bruise they typically lay off exercising that muscle for a few days.

I would suggest light stretching of the affected area and keep your workouts to different muscle groups. It is fairly easy to further injure an already damaged muscle.
  • If you're serious, of course you should work out. There's plenty to do that does not involve your knee, including strength training that when done at a light weight and fast pace, can act as cardio. Don't wimp out!

I would do core and upper body workouts that don't mess with your knee.
