It's finally me first

All my kids are grown with lives of their own so I'm able to put me first for the first time in my life. I finally got a new job that has great insurance that includes one complete physical including all lab tests and xrays needed on a regular basis according to the AMA. I've know for 20+ years that I have thyroid issues and I just found out I have diabetes. So for me to get a handle on making my health better is critical for my life.

I had a doctor that kept playing with my thyroid meds and I kept getting worse so I went back to the doctor who found the issue in the first place. At my physical we discussed all the health issues I want to work on. I told him I'm sure that most of my issues are due to me being OFF. That's Old, Fat, and Female. He kind of laughed and said he couldn't help me with the old and female part, but he could probably help me get a better handle on the fat part.

My doctor knows I've been slowly putting on weight and have a hard time losing it. When he got the blood test results back he personally called me to give me the good news and the bad news. The good news is he knows why I feel like crap all the time. My thyroid meds aren't where they need to be and I have diabetes. So we are working towards getting my thyroid straightened out. He says that may help me to lose weight. He also put me on pills to lower my sugar levels. He said I'm still making insulin but it's not effective. He also hooked me up with a diabetic nurse and dietian. I get the initial education and up to 8 follow up appointments per year paid for by my insurance. The insurance company also has it's own education program to educate on both of my conditions. So I've got some studying to do. Good thing I like research and learning new things. This is going to be an adventure.

Just learning to take care of myself and am so thankful to have found this site. I hope to find some friends that can encourage me and give me tips and I hope to learn a thing or two to share too.
