My fasting blood was 120 and I'm only 30. I need to make big changes in my life. I thought I have always been making good choices when it came to food, but never realized the importance of portions and balance. I have always been a calorie counter and couldn't understand why I still carried extra weight in my middle even though I've always stayed around 1500 calories.

I love to cook and bake. This is heart breaking to me....I'm looking for friends, who are like me or diabetic, who can help encourage me to stay on track.

I had a lot of the same issues although I am hypoglycemic. I have to really watch my sugar intake also. And I love to bake, I work in a bakery and the school cafeteria! There are a lot of things you can do to modify recipes for diabetes. google recipes and you can find somethings that will help with your journey. You dont have to give up the things you love, just readjust them to fit your needs. try hungrygirl.com. she has a lot of great recipes

I'm new here too and a newly diagnosised diabetic. I still make insulin so I need to make major changes in my diet and I hope to be able to reverse this before it gets too far out of hand. My dad had diabetes but never took care of it. He started having strokes till one finally got him. I don't want to follow in his footsteps.

I think we found a good place to learn about making changes.

also you have to think about what is more important. do you want to eat what you want to or be healthy? my friend has diabetes and is very heavy and still drinks coke with sugar! she has a son and doesnt give a rats! you could go blind, lose digits, etc. think of all the people who love you and it helps to take care of yourself!
  • You are very right annabellj. I do understand how important it is to make changes for the sake of my health. But it's really hard to make those changes happen. Food is my comfort and the year I am having is full of major stressors. I normally have no problem sticking to a diet, but this time it's been really difficult.
