Excuses excuses excuses

When I was 15, I started dating my fiance. Between 10th and 11th grade (the first 8 months of our relationship), I gained about 85lbs. I was barely eating -- or doing anything else. I didn't have the energy to get out of bed on most days. I was failing in school and in pain most of the time. I ignored the weight gain and all the symptoms, and the school psychologist diagnosed me with severe depression.

At this point, my parent forced me to see a doctor, and I found out that I have Hypothyroidism.

For 10 years, I've used this as my excuse to be overweight. Of course, it was a HUGE contributor in my weight gain, but I'm so sad that I spent a decade thinking that it was preventing me from losing weight. I've sulked around, disgusted with myself for so long, with NO attempt to lose weight because I was told I wouldn't be able to.

Now, 50lbs later, I want encourage anyone else suffering from Hypothyroidism. Weight loss is NOT impossible with a little effort! Don't let a diagnosis hold you back and prevent you from trying.

    BRAVO!

you are so brave and of such inspiration...it's amazing to hear a story like yours and realize that the most of us have it so much easier, and for that, we should be very thankful and motivated to change our lives :flowerforyou:

It took me a year to lose 50lbs. I started on Halloween 2010. I'm sure I could've done it in a shorter amount of time though.

Last year, I got to a point where I was really just disgusted with myself. I started eating between 400 & 500 calories a day, and burning around 1000. I dropped 25lbs in 3 weeks... but then I completely stalled out. I was stuck for a while and couldn't lose ANYTHING, then I gained about 10lbs back, then for a while I lost and gained that 10lbs over and over, then over the past 3 months lost the 10 I gained back, plus another 25.

Now I'm on track with eating right and going to the gym everyday. I'm remembering to take my Hypothyroid medication everyday, along with multivitamins.
