Salad for breakfast...?

ok... a lot of you will probably think this is weird but I've started eating salad for breakfast. I got the idea from "Born to Run" by Chris McDougall. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for chowing down on veggies and grilled chicken instead of oatmeal... but I love it! I'm full all morning long and don't even think about lunch or snacks until well after 12pm.
Anyone else do this? I'd love a little camaraderie!! :)

I eat all sorts of savoury things for breakfast. Leftover stirfry. Cheese tomato and lime pickle omelette. Vegetable couscous. Tomato and olive tapenade on toast. So what?

    Eat less than you burn.

Sounds good but I gotta ask what a lime pickle is?

Sounds good. I'm not a breakfast person, but I will eat something like that, but then I prefer breakfast food for dinner. Keep it up! :)

Lime pickle is the pickle that makes life worth living. I plan whole meals around "What would taste good with lime pickle?" Answers: egg, lamb, cream cheese, potato salad, roast beef, chicken korma

I am not a fan of traditional breakfast foods, so I love eating leftovers/salad/veggie burgers/whatever I want for breakfast instead!

In the Middle East that's very common.

I read the book and have tried going with salads for breakfast, but it often hurts my stomach to eat salad that early (I get up at 5am!). Maybe it's the vinegar that I use, not sure. It does give me tons of energy though! Of note, my fiance's 92-year-old grandfather has been eating salads for breakfast for most of his life and he's healthier than a lot of 60-year-olds I've seen. Maybe I'll take a hint from him and give it another shot.

That's so cool about the 92 y.o.! Think I'll continue on with the breakfast salads :)
  • I love salads for breakfast.. I love the fresh taste and crispness first thing in the morning.

For most people, their lightest meal of the day is breakfast and their heaviest is dinner. If you eat your heaviest meal at the beginning of the day, you have all day to burn off what you consumed. Since most people don't do much activity wise after dinner, the lighter meal is easier to burn off before you go to bed.

Just a quick summary, hope it helps!

I was just thinking that this grilled chicken caesar salad that I'm eating is so good that I want more for breakfast tomorrow.

I eat leftovers and savory food for breakfast quite a bit. And I seem to like the typical breakfast foods better for dinner.
  • I love salad for breakfast! A super quick meal I do often is 2 eggs over easy with fresh spinach. I was planning on adding a few sliced almonds with the spinach today, but I forgot. :)
