My 2nd 5k

On October 15, I wrote about my first 5k, the Chocolate Chase, and what I overcame to get there ( http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/368702-my-inspirational-i-hope-nsv ). Today, I ran my second 5k, the "4th Year 5k", which took place on the UVA campus. It was a beautiful run, though the weather was not so beautiful. When I left my apartment at 7:08, it was 28 degrees! I was a bit chilly running, even in my fleece jacket.
Anyway, just under a month after my first race (and 2 days after my 2 month running anniversary!), which was only 34 days after starting to run, I managed to shave a whole FIVE MINUTES off my time! My official time for the Chocolate Chase was 42:14. Today I came in at around 37:09. I had an injury scare yesterday, so when I started to feel really crappy the last mile going up a couple hills, I slowed down and walked them, because I didn't want to hurt myself.
To summarize my last thread, in case you don't want to read it , my kneecaps pop out and I was told I would never run again. I have defied the odds, without having surgery, and am running! Because of my issue, I will never have much burst speed, and I have to be cautious, but I'm out there having fun, getting exercise, and meeting new people. That, my friends, is what matters!
I wanted to post this, because again, I want to stress that you can do what you put your mind to. As my favorite saying goes, "No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone on the couch". Get out there and try something new today. Maybe it's not running. Maybe it's just trying to walk around the block instead of just down the street. Maybe you've always wanted to try swimming... You never know what you can or can't do unless you give it a try. I believe that you CAN do it!
(I look like death, but hey, I just ran 3.1 miles, HAHA)

You are truly an inspiration for me. I too have a goal of running my first 5K next year and also have problems with my knees. I've started training with my personal trainer to get ready to run. You're the wind i needed beneath my wings to inspire me to continue. Just like you, at times I feel that I can't do it, but with encouragement , I WILL RUN !
-Thanks0 -
Great job!!! Keep it up.0

You can! I'm glad you're working with a trainer, so you can figure out what works for you. Different injuries require different support, strengthening and training. Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:0 -
