HRM question

i found my old HRM!
it's a Polar, model A3.
readig the maual, i do not see that it can tell me how many calories i'm expending when i exercise.
is that just a feature of the newer HRMs? or do i simply need to learn some new calculations?

I have a new Polar F11 and yes it calculates it according to how hard you work and for how long. Keeps a file and everything.
