I finally decided to post some pictures! Yay me for courage, lol.
For those of you that don't know me, I was at a really good weight of 128 pounds a couple of years ago, and I was wearing a loose size 6. I still had some body fat to lose, but overall I was very happy with how my body looked and how I felt.
But because of some pretty bad life circumstances, I let myself go backwards to cope with things. I have basically been yo-yoing since the middle of 2008 because of stress-related eating and lack of exercise, and then bad advice I received when I tried to diet and exercise again.
I was on the right track at the beginning of this year, and I had gotten down to 135 pounds right around my birthday which is in May of this year. My wedding dress was a size 8 and it felt perfect. But then life happened again...long story short, my Dad who had been suffering with Parkinson's Disease for the past 6 years passed away in September after getting extremely sick the day before my wedding in July. As you can imagine, summer was really REALLY hard on me and I went back to eating comfort foods, drinking to ignore sadness (bad idea guys, just to let you know...) and virtually no exercise.
So, with all that being said, I feel like all the stress is gone now and that the life circumstances I was dealing with before are worked out and I am "normal" again, whatever normal means, lol. I joined a gym which opened around the 20th of September (don't remember the exact date, but that's close enough). I started eating and exercising using the principles in Tom Venuto's book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle---
Basically I eat around 1500 calories a day (regardless of exercise ones, because I am following Venuto's ideas and that of Steve Troutman on this website in order to figure out calories instead of MFP's guided recommendations...MFP has me at 1200 + exercise, but since I pre-log it's easier doing it my way for me). I keep my ratios close to 45% protein, 35% carbs, and 20% fat.
For exercise, I go to the gym and lift HEAVY 3 days every week. I am currently doing a full body routine with 8 exercises, 3 sets per exercise, and as heavy as I can go for 8-12 reps. I also do cardio anywhere from 3-5 times a week. I like cardio kickboxing, Turbo Kick, running, step mill, and rowing machine. Variety is best. I couldn't see myself running everyday or doing Turbo Kick everyday, but every week is different.
I measure my success in a variety of ways including weight, body fat percentage, and pictures. The following pictures were taken only 3 weeks apart. The first picture was on mid-October @ 149 pounds and 34% body fat. The second picture was on Monday this week (November 7) @ 146 pounds and 32% body fat. (Body fat measured with the US Navy method).
I can't wait to get to my goal of around 120 pounds and 16-17% body fat. I can see changes in these pictures, and I hardly ever see the changes myself, lol. I just wanted to share!
