Goals OTHER than weight loss

I'm 5' 5" and 146 lbs...for my particular frame and build, I think I'm doing pretty good and have never worried much about that number anyways. I wouldn't say no to losing at most 10 pounds, but - again - not my primary focus.

What are some of your goals that don't revolve around that number on the scale?

I am registering for a marathon in April, so I REALLY want to stay committed through the winter with the training.

I would also like to FINALLY get into the habit of weight lifting regularly! It seems I always find a plan/routine, stay with it for a 2-3 weeks then just drop it.

I'm also happy with my current weight.
My goals are: lower my body fat per cent to at least 25%, then see if I am happy with that or not.
get my top and bottom measurements more equal LOL
improve my upper and lower body strength and maintain it as I get older

I'm with you on the weight training. Working on it (slowly) myself!

My goal is to have abs that finally show. I know they are strong and I work on them alot. Need to get my body fat % down so I can see them. They are starting to become visible and my wife really likes them so far! Want to make her not be able to keep her hands off my stomach, that's my goal!

It is so refreshing to see someone who feel that healthy living is more than weight loss.

My goals are to continue to stay active, since I can't seem to find a way to drop my pounds. However, I keep setting goals that are not weight related. My goals for 2012 is 1) run a 50 k (my first) and 2) do a half ironman distance (perhaps two) That will give me plenty to train for and focus on.

What marathon are you running? I have done 6, but I am really into half's - doing my 5th this year next weekend in Philly.

    Goals:
    Muscle tone all over.
    Keep up the exercise.
    Flatten my tummy pooch.
    Size 8.
    Stay healthy.
  • Ok other than weight/ scales, I would like to lower my body fat since it seems to be stuck at 31-32%.
I also would like to tone up my arms, abs, and upper thighs more.
I want to completely get out of double digit jeans and into something smaller than an 8/9/10 size.
I want to learn the best combination of foods and fruits in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Want to up my protein without shakes and bars.
Lastly, I want to increase stamina so that I can compete in a 5K.

I dropped one plan after two months. I went on vacation and came back LAZY. That tends to be a pattern with me.

I think it always depends on your personal life and motivation at the time.

Not necessarily here to lose weight, but more interested in sculpting my body and using the calorie counter to do things like calorie counting or carb cycling (as with the program).

I love weightlifting. I've found over the years that when I fall off my wagon and get back in there, muscles do have memory and I always bounce back quick. Feel free to add me

Great Question. I read someone's blog and they were making goals for each chunk of weight they were going to lose. So I did the same and already I think I might move some things around. But here are some ideas:

First 5 pounds lost, new crazy colored socks because they always fit.
New workout clothes that match, no baggy sweatpants.
    A pedicure
    A new red dress
    New Winter Boots
Sherpa Gloves (well they're advertised in today's Sunday paper as keeping your hands warm)
    Roller Blades and bandages
    Botox
    Concert tickets
Registering for a 5k, doesn't mean you I have to run it
Taking a class and making googley eyes at all the cute boys
IPOD or if I save enough cash and don't spend it all to Botox my entire head, maybe an IPAD

    1. Get back into a nice comfortable size 10 again.
    2. To feel confident again in a swim suit (I used to competitively swim)
    3. To be able to do a second marathon, running this time. I walked my first marathon in Honolulu with my DD 5 years ago. We finished in 8:47:01. She used to be able to run it in 6:26.

It would be nice to be able to go back and do it again, on our own this time. Last time we did it with her military buddies. She doesn't run any more, but if I get going, perhaps she will too and we can replay it with a better time this time around. I'm the only person in her family that has ever attempted it with her. She had 3 requests the first time around. 1. That I do the marathon with her. 2. That we finish the whole thing. 3. That we aren't last. As I crossed the finish line, I told her, "Merry Christmas!" She got all three.

I know it's not a dream, I have the lei I got when I crossed the finish line, I have the DVD showing us along the way and crossing the finish line, I have the medal on a key chain proving I finished, and most importantly, I HAVE THE T-SHIRT!
  • Great goals everyone

I'm registering for the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio. I registered for it last year but didn't run it :ohwell: I didn't commit to training through the winter, but this time around I KNOW I want to! I would love to finish in 4 hours, but my my primary focus is to just stick with the training and see where that takes me.

I also have 2 pairs of jeans that used to fit comfortably. They still fit now, but are a bit snug. It'd be nice to be able to wear them regularly.

  • Right now I'm focusing on building muscle (and hopefully getting rid of some body fat at the same time!). I started doing New Rules of Lifting for Women a few weeks ago... just need to stick to it now! That's the part I usually have trouble with

I'd also like to be able to run a 5k, but considering that the last time I tried running I lasted about 60 seconds and then felt like I was going to throw up... that might be a far-off goal. I'm thinking of doing couch to 5k in the spring.

Ultimately I'd love to be able to be a size six again. But you know what I recently realized? Back when I was a size six, and weighed 30-40 pounds less than I do now... I STILL FELT FAT! Granted, I'm probably in better shape now, even with the extra weight, because I never darkened the door of a gym then whereas now I exercise 3-4 times a week. It was just sobering to think that when I was actually at my goal weight, I still thought I was fat.

I have to lose the weight, but my other goals include:
having some definition to my muscles
ensuring I don't end up diabetic like my father and his father
running - it hurts too much right now!
undo a little of the damage to my knees
increase my endurance for cardio. I love doing master classes.
  • Bench my body weight
    have defined deltoids
scare all the guys at the gym ;D
