Do you really need protein after your workout?

I just decided that I want to workout today, but I already ate all the protein foods that I usually eat like, like eggs, yogurt. cottage chesse. So I was wondering if I really do need protein after my workout? I was planning on eating fruit like strawberries and pears after my workout.

depends on the intensity of the workout, but it's recommended to have some protein post-workout to help build and repair muscles.0

It depends on how you define "after". Long held belief is that you need protein within 30 minutes but this has been largely proven incorrect.
Also, pre-existing proteins in your system from pre-workout food will still very, very likely cover you as far as protein synthesis.
Short answer: You're fine, don't worry about it.0 -

Yep. It's actually a little more important to make sure you have some sugar after a workout because your muscles will suck up the glucose to help repair themselves. Protein doesn't hurt, but it's not as necessary. I like to have a protein shake made with real sugar and not artificial sweetener after a good workout. It's fast and easy and it keeps me from being sore, which is important because I'm a stay at home mom. If I lift heavy weights I still have to be able to pick up my kids!0
