Which do you believe? the machine or the MFP database? I feel like I'm cheating with the database.

HRM all the way!0

Neither. My experience has been MFP is very generous and my treadmill has a giving spirit as well. My HRM is always lower than both of them.0

If the machine asks for your age and weight, use that number. If it doesn't, go with whichever number is lowest.0

Where do you guys go and buy your Heart Rate Monitor... Can you guys give me a good make and model and where you bought it please0

That makes sense. Thanks0

Many machines that calculate calories burned aren't always linked to your heartrate and are notorious for being a huge over-estimate of how many calories are actually burned. I agree with those who use a HRM to get a better picture. A good HRM uses your own heartbeat and takes into account your age, weight, gender, and how active you are.
It'd be great to use the larger of the two calories burned, but then you could get an inaccurate idea of your net and over-eat by several hundred calories...YIKES! :noway:0 -

I second that.0 -
go on Amazon and search for Polar Heart Rate Monitor to compare prices and models. They have a wide variety from $50 to $400...and Polar is the brand to go with for most folks unless you need a specific GPS app for outdoor running and such, then probably Garmin...0

i wore my HRM while I swam my workout...and when I chose the 'moderate' vs the 'vigorous' swimming, MFP was within 5 calories burned0
