HRM issues, maybe?

Saturday I did zumba for 60 minutes and kept my hr up around 150-160 and burned 536 calories. Today I did a video at home "Leslie Sansone, Walk away the pounds" 60 minutes, my hr was 120- 135 and my hrm says I burned 500 calories. I just wonder how the calories burned can be so close when I come out of zumba class and soaking wet and feel like I'm going to fall over and today I barely even broke a sweat.

Sounds like an HRM issue. Your heart rate was significantly less for an entire 60 minutes, the difference in calories should be a lot more than 36. Maybe it's time to change the batteries.

HRM's are funky some times. They are only estimates too and can depend on how much info it requires you to enter in it. It should ask age, sex, weight, fitness level, max heart rate, resting heart rate and maybe another thing or two to be anywhere close to accurate.

You will burn more cals when you are in your aerobic zone( typically 115- 150bpm) than you will in the anaerobic zone( above 150bpms-ish) There are alot of sites on the web that can explain this. But basically you are burning more cals because your body id able to use the oxygen efficiently, while above that you are operating in an oxygen depleated mode. Kind of like fire burning hotter when oxygen is added.
