Hi: Does anyone travel a lot and long distances - I do, and I am not sure if I just recalculate my calories for the day so that it is a longer day??? Next week I have two Wednesdays - I may sleep through one of them, but of course my timing for eating is way off whenever I have jet lag, so that I am craving dinner at 2 a.m..
Thanks!

I wish I had that problem   I love traveling!!!! I am not sure if I can be of any help but I would not double it at all. Try to monitor as close as possible your meals, every 2-3 hrs, and hey if hunger or time to eat finds you on the other side of the world and it is time to eat, eat  :flowerforyou:
  • Sorry, I don't have that problem, but I would think try your best to stay within your allotted calories for each day...who cares if you are eating dinner at 2 am as long as you aren't eating 2 dinners, I think it will balance out...and hey, if you go over one day, remember, it's not the end of the world...take it with a grain of salt, know ahead of time it may happen and don't beat yourself up over it.

I would recommend that you make sure to pack several healthy snack options so you aren't starving by the time you get where you are going and that way you make sure you do have a healthy choice and aren't stuck making the best of a coupleof bad choices offered instead.

    Good Luck!

I'm doing that now. I don't have a good answer for you unfortunately. But this is what I've been doing...

    When I travel long distances:

    1. On the plane, I try to go for the vegetarian or low-calorie dishes.
    2. I keep my date and time set to home... this works for me, because I'm still working US hours even though I'm in Asia and I don't end up with two Wednesday's that way.
    3. I make use of the gym at the hotel (to help compensate for giving in to the local cuisine once in a while... which is pretty hard to find nutritional information for at times).
    4. Forgive myself a bunch, because after all... travel is difficult. This might be the best option for you if you have to not log for a day because of the two Wednesdays. In fact, giving yourself a day off might be the best solution... just make sure you get back on the next day.
    5. Increase the amount of water I drink... it helps with everything from travel-related dehydration to jet lag.

** For off schedule hunger... fruit will help to satisfy you until it is eatin' time.

Thanks - I am also in Asia (now) - I don't have exercise rooms where I am but I do bike 30 to 60 minutes a day to /from work and errands. I have little choice but local cuisine but am usually able to figure out a good estimate. My problem is really going back to the US for 8 weeks and all the temptations there (beside the immediate jet lag issues, etc..) I don't eat a lot on the plane but do try to snack a bit - and yes keeping hydrated.

How did the trip go? Was it difficult to maintain while traveling? Despite my advice, I had a hard time. I didn't gain, but I didn't loose either. Kind of stalled out for 2.5 weeks.
