Best Holiday Surprises

So the worst holiday mishaps thread got me to thinking about what the best holiday surprise stories are. So what's your story?
When my brother was in college the football team made it to the Cotton Bowl. My brother played percussion in the band and had to go to the game which was being played in Texas. I live in Arizona and my parents had made plans to come out for Christmas from Mississippi. Since the Cotton Bowl is played just after Christmas, my brother was supposed to travel to Texas with the band and wasn't going to be able to make the trip with my parents. My brother and I schemed to find a way for him to come out and he ended up going to the band director and asking if he could meet the rest of the band in Texas after Christmas instead of riding with them so he could spend the holiday with his family and surprise our parents. His director agreed. So Christmas day my brother flies into Phoenix. My parents, my husband and I are all at my in-laws house. The entire day my dad was saying he wished my brother could be there and how the day would be perfect if he was. Finally, I pretended to get a phone call from a "friend" who was "stranded" at the airport on Christmas day and I HAD to go get them. I picked up my brother and when we got back to my in-law's I went in the backdoor and said everything was fine. A couple of moments later there was a knock at the front door. I asked my dad to answer it. He finally got up to answer the door and when he opened it my brother was standing there with this giant, cheese-eating grin plastered on his face. My dad almost fell over, literally! He was so happy my brother was there and it was the BEST Christmas surprise ever.
(We had planned on my mom being surprised as well but the surprise got ruined for her by our banker who called to ask my mom why my brother needed money from his account for a plane ticket. My brother was ticked since he was over 18, the banker should never have talked to my mom and he explained the situation to her. Needless to say the banker was devestated she had ruined the surprise as my brother ended up having to tell my mom what we were planning but my dad's reaction more than made up for it.)

I love it! Such a great Christmas story I get so cheesy this time of year and your story made me get teary-eyed. It must be so hard to be so far away from all of your family. Thanks for sharing such a great Christmas memory. One of mine has to be from a few years ago...it actually snowed (or more like sleet..ha ha!) on Christmas Eve..it felt so magical...because it never snows where I live (in SE Texas) so it made it that more special.0

Aww thanks! It's very hard to be away from my family around the holidays. Especially since my in-laws now live in PA, my mon is in MS, my brother in TN, and my BIL is in CO. But I've made a fabulous fabulous friends in Arizona and they have become my extended family. I'd love to have a white Christmas but since I live in the desert it's not going to happen unless I travel! lol.0 -
