How much should I weigh?

I'm 15 years old, and before you say anything, I don't diet, just eat healthily and watch my calories.
But I'm around 5'8" and on a BMI scale it says I should weigh around 165lb, however a lot of the other people on here are going for like 130lb?!
Is 165lb too high, too low?

The question is how much do you weigh now?

I weigh around 175lb, which is quite a lot, but I'm not obese, just overweight.

At your age, don't worry about BMI. What does your doctor think? As long as you're eating enough, I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of people are especially thin in the teenage years.

Oops. I misunderstod your OP. 130 is extremely low for an adult who's 5'8". Really, this is a question for your doctor.

I think weight by height graphs are ridiculous. At 5'8 and 175, I bet you look great. It's all about how you feel. And I agree, you are 15 so enjoy life. Eat right and exercise and don't worry about all the numbers.

    My GW is 125 I'm 5'8"
The BMI tracker says that I'm at a healthy range from 121-164lbs. I'm currently 145lbs but I don't feel good at this weight. I've been in the 120's before and that's my happy weight. It really depends on what you feel most comfortable at but it defo should be at the healthy range and not under.

Oh yeah and you're 15! Hun just enjoy as much as you can and don't worry so much about your weight :-)

165 would be the highest you want for the "healthy range", so that would be a great starting goal. Then if you feel you need to, you could shoot for a goal somewhere in the middle of the "healthy range".

I'm 5'9" and at 15 I weighed 145 naturally. It depends on your build. If you have a larger frame then 165 is a good weight, if you are built smaller then 130 could be reasonable. It really depends all on you. I could never imagine getting down to 130 and it being a healthy weight for me. I think somewhere between 150 and 160 is the right weight for me.

I don't think you're ever too young to learn healthy habits =) But at your age, I wouldn't get too caught up on "weight." Just practice healthy habits, make good choices, get out there and be active, and enjoy these years!!!!

i am the exact same as you and at 15 I weighed 156. that was a perfect weight for me. now 5 8 and 175. it is just a number. do you have a pair of jeans that you used to fit into? try that. also, you might still be growing. but at 18 I weighed 180 and felt awful. just eat right and try to move more.

Eh, depends on your body. Even when I was tiny I had large hips and big boobs. If you are thin enough to see your hip bones there is no more to lose. I am 5'8.5" inches I could see my hip bones when I was 150lbs. I was also a 34DD bra size which I am sure made me a little heavier. My goal is 160, I *might* go a little lower if I get there and it looks reasonable, but honestly women's bodies vary. There is not "right" weight for each height, only ranges.
  • I'm a male, btw. So I'm probably expected to weigh a bit more than females?

As a male, 130lbs sounds really low. That's usually the lower end of what 5'8 women would aim for. Men have more muscle mass so not only do they need more calories but a lot look healthier when they are on the higher end of the healthy BMI.
Maybe aim for 165 and see how you feel? It should be less about the number and more about how you look and feel anyway - making sure you eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise as you already said your just focusing on eating healthily :)

I'm a 5'8 female, small frame and my goal weight was 130lbs. I wouldn't have wanted to go below that, if I looked healthy still and proportionate then maybe 125 but that's really pushing it. When I hit 130 I felt a bit too small for my liking on my upper half (I don't really like collarbones showing, they always did a little bit even at 150lbs and really out of shape but they were more prominent at 130) but my lower half was fine :/

It's different for everyone, you just have to find out what weight suits you best, and keeps you looking healthy.

When I was your age I was desperate to be healthy, and fit and slim to fit in and feel comfortable with myself, and I look back 6 - 7 years and I think "WHY... Why did I want to do that" I WAS slim sleak physically fit teenager... I look at teens now (yes im only 20 but I can relate) and I think why are you doing this to yourself, you're all young just enjoy yourself.... Its totally not worth it, I am all for healthy eating, but there is NOTHING at all wrong in once in a while endulging yourself in a nice Big Mac or KFC... It's only when you get to about 18 - 20 you should start thinking I should stop with the take aways etc... (Or thats how I think)... Honestly, for the next 3 - 5years just enjoy yourself. If you are honestly worried about being healthy, then ask your parents or save your allowance and go to a once a week martial art class, that will keep you at peak physical health as well as put you in a diciplined loving community of people your age. Honestly just enjoy your peak teens :) xxx - I hope this helps
  • You know what helped me not to get caught up with the number on the scale?

I saw this cool article in a magazine of about 15 women who all weighed 155 pounds and about the same height. They all had black bodysuits on. The moral of the story.....some looked fat, some looked thin, some looked athletic etc. etc. You gotta figure out the weight that is right for you (where you feel lean and strong and fit).

I am 5'6" and my goal is 158. That may be high to some, but at that weight, I can wear a bikini. Everyone is different since muscle weights more than fat and we all have a diff ratio.

Your goal depends on your lean body mass. Some people here are 5'9" with a goal of 135 but my lean body mass, at 5'9.25", is 127.5 lbs. So, if my goal were 135, I would have about 7.5 pounds of fat. I would be sickly. However, 135 on a different body may be fine.

I would recommend that if you want to be more comfortable with your body, you focus on eating healthy and getting regular exercise. At 15, your body is still changing and building muscle will be the best way for you to burn fat.

you have to do whats right for YOU because charts will lead you all sorts of places. You should enjoy your youth but you can't enjoy your youth that much if you're not comfortable with yourself. continue eating healthy and you will feel good. listen to your body.

if you are 15 then you will probably grow more, so 175lbs is a fine weight to be. make sure you eat healthy and get some exercise, but apart from that dont worry too much!

This is definitely true, I was reading through success stories yesterday, and I saw one lady who is only 1inch shorter than me, but she weighed the same as me, and she dropped 30lbs and looks amazing. But I thought to myself wait... But at the same weight and pretty much sane high she looked atleast 2 sizes bigger than me, everything looked bigger on her at the same weight, which made me realise, i've always been able to run, i've always been strong so at the same weight as her I have got more muscle mass, all I have to do it do cardio work outs to burn the fat off my body from around this muscle! I mean I have pretty big thighs, but when I tense and feel my thighs they are hard (underneath the fat) I mean REALLY hard.
