Exercise Equipment Total vs HRM Totals

I found that I was getting ripped off by using the total calories burn listed on the elliptical machine.
I programmed the machine with my age, weight etc and exercised for 45 minutes. I was wearing a HRM during the exercise the whole time. When I was done the readout on the machine stated that I had burned 205 calories and my HRM stated I burned 549...big difference!!! It felt more like a 549 burn too. I'm glad I purchased a HRM!!!

Wow, my experience was the opposite!
The elliptical read 205 after 30 min., but my HRM read only 96. My HRM consistently gives me much lower calories burned for any machine I use at the gym, often about half.
I'm still glad to know the truth,(but a bit envious).0 -
Check your HRM settings...You may need to reset them0

Something is probably wrong with your HRM.. or were you just standing on the Eliptical? Seriously, 96 isn't correct.0 -

There is definitely a difference! Now, after months of working out, my HRM is less than the machine. the machine will usually say 450 for 45 minutes, and my HRM will say 370 or so. I'm sure the machine is including the arm movements, that in reality I'm not doing the arm movements. lol.0
