Hi everyone - this is totally non-related to health/fitness/dieting etc. But I could do with some suggestions.
I have my 79 yr old mother in law visiting from the states -she arrived yesterday.
I'd really like to ensure she has a memorable visit - she's only here for about 10 days - not long considering its such a long trip!
During the day my husband works - so while my daughters (12 and 9) are at school, it's just ME to entertain her. She does have a few friends she'll be catching up with - but I'm unsure of her plans on that yet. She is very non-demanding.

SO - she's not quick on her feet - she walks with a cane...and needs to take it slow-ish otherwise she may fall.

I thought about taking her to the movies....to the library - and then for coffee/cake afterwards perhaps. Anything to fill in a bit of the day and get outta the house.
Can you suggest anything - anything at all - plus anything that may be kinda special and memorable - so she really enjoys herself ?? She seems a little distant and where she lives back in the states - she's quite a loner and seems quite happy, just watching tv.

What DO I DO WITH HER??? I don't want to just sit around during the day not doing anything - it will drive me NUTS guys! I don't think she's into anything crafty and I am hopeless with crafty stuff anyway!

Anyway - if you can help that'd be great! I really appreciate your reading my non-related post and any suggestions are welcome. Cheers!

Ask her .. She may have a few suggestions that you both might like.

She may like to craft (for instance) .. Perhaps you could even do something together so you would have a wonderful keepsake to give to your kids in her memory (someday).

My partner's grandmother (84) comes up every Xmas, we always go for a pedicure, she loves it! Her eyesight's not so good any more, and she finds it hard to bend down to cut her toenails, and it's a bit of a treat she wouldn't normally do.

oh love the thing about the photos. i wish i would have had my mom on video also. maybe you could sit her down and have her tell you some stories from her youth and you could video tape it for the kids for later.

I'm not too quick on my feet either and also use a cane. I like to visit aquariums and art museums-- they usually have a wheelchair to borrow. I'd think about what her interests are and figure out something nearby that fits her personality AND has handicapped access. I don't like being asked what I want to do usually because I feel like I'm imposing on my hosts if I choose something they don't like, but we don't know her so talk it over with her. :) Good luck!

well when my mum came to visit at the age of 82 she has difficulty walking too, we went to the casino and she put her few coins in the slot machine then we had lunch she loved it, also went on a scenic train ride and visited a winery, she's not a drinker really but enjoy the day out and the winery tour, the zoo is also a good day out and some zoos have little ride on tour bus around the grounds.

thankyou sooo much for your replies. YOu are all very sweet and I love your suggestions. Particulary the pedicure/salon treatment! And yes, we have a pottery place nearby where you can paint something - I'm sure she'd love that.

Perhaps a trip to the museum too - she has always loved that and is very knowledgeable with her history so could teach me plenty!

Again - thank you all - I love your ideas. I will ask her too though - she has already said she's just happy being - here. She's such a sweetheart.
