Now, the background is this: I am an emotional eater and have, for years, dealt with emotional ups and downs by eating entire huge bags of chips, popcorn etc. Yesterday was a stressful day, capping off a stressful week, and at the end of my school day, I was going to walk home past several grocery stores and have three hours before my partner got home. In the past, this would be the prime setup for a huge Doritos binge. Plus PMS etc meant this was like, the perfect storm for a gigantic binge.

I knew this, though, so before I left school, I put the Doritos bag in my food tracker and discovered that it was almost 4,000 calories in the whole thing. I have never checked that out before...I was shocked. Even though I knew it would be a lot, that's like three days worth of calories. In the past, I would have easily eaten the whole Doritos bag, plus a whole tub of cream cheese, plus maybe another bag of popcorn or chips, plus maybe a pint of ice cream. Yikes. That's at least a week worth of calories, with not much nutrition!

So I deleted the Doritos from my food tracker and added popcorn, coconut oil, and seasoning, which I could have a similarly large portion for less than 500 calories.

Then when I got home, I discovered that what I was really hungry for was a salad with oil and vinegar and hemp hearts on it. I made myself the salad, enjoyed it, felt full, and didn't even miss the crunch and the salt!

This is big, folks. This is really big. I feel like I'm on a roll now! The feeling of accomplishment from that helped me pass by the plate of delicious double chocolate chip cookies at lunch today as well as making healthy choices about quantity at the community lunch at school!

I feel you! I used to be the person who could eat a candy bar, whole pint of ice cream, chips, cookies, anything! Even if I was full, I felt like it filled that hole. Congrats to you! :D

Awesome! It is so hard to get to that place, but once you are there and see that your choices matter, it gets so much easier to make the healthy choices! Well done and congrats!

Huge insight! You have become conscious. It's the beauty of tracking: you see the impact and then you choose. Good for you. You'll never go back to the old way.

Wow good for you. Sounds like me. I could just sit and eat and eat junk and never feel full. Way to think it all out!!
