zig zag

I use to be on another site to track my food and it actually gave me 300 more calories to eat during the day than MFP does. I was very successful with the other site and have hit a plateau with this site....now I know it's not the site, and me dropping 20lbs before i came here definitely has something to do with the plateau as well. The last 3 weeks i've been eating approximately 1500 cals/day (nett) (212lbs 5'8") and burning around 3-4,000 calories. My thought is to try and mix it up a bit.

I've read about the zig zag diet and it does seem to make sense but wanted to get others opinions. For the record, i'm not super frustrated with the plateau because honestly i feel great, blood pressure is down and I can see the differences.......i'm just looking for a way to jump start the metabolism again. Any thoughts from folks who have tried this? I'm also going to be starting Insanity within a week or so, so i'm guessing that will help as well.

i'm a 5' 4 woman with a desk job 4 days a week and i eat 1500 cals and my exersise calorie and am losing weight .

undereating can stop you losing weight (been there  )

Are you eating enough? Are you eating your exersise calories?

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/61706-guide-to-calorie-deficit

Go to the tools section and figure out your BMI:

Generally someone with a BMI over 32 can do a 1000 calorie a day (2 lbs a week) deficit
With a BMI of 30 to 32 a deficit of 750 calories is generally correct (about 1.5 lbs a week)
With a BMI of 28 to 30 a deficit of 500 calories is about right (about 1 lb a week)
With a BMI of 26 to 28 a deficit of about 300 calories is perfect (about 1/2 lb a week)
and below 26... well this is where we get fuzzy. See now you're no longer talking about being overweight, so while it's still ok to have a small deficit, you really should shift your focus more towards muscle building, and reducing fat. This means it is EXTRA important to eat your exercise calories as your body needs to KNOW it's ok to burn fat stores, and the only way it will know is if you keep giving it the calories it needs to not enter the famine response (starvation mode).

This is just a part of it! please read the link above

Thanks Morgan, appreciate it. Great articles!. Looks like i'm eating enough as i eat probably 12,000cals/week and burning around 17,000 which should put me in a good range. My BMI is a little over 32. I fully do a cheat meal/day 1/week but definitely keep it in control. I think on the days when i'm doing intense workouts (spinning classes) i should really be eating a bit more that specific day. Many times after spin i can be a like 800 cals net for the week.

I zig zag calories and have most days low carbs, then few days I'll chuck some in to shake things up and eat loads that day. It seems to work for me and stops me getting bored with a 'diet' when I can have treat on higher cal days.
