I am the only Broscience professional but, yes 6 small meals is worhty of mentioning. At least starvation mode wasn't mentioned because everybody knows you go into starvation mode 37 minutes after you eat which is why you must graze all day everyday.Think about it, if you only eat one huge meal a day, your body is going to think that you aren’t going to feed it again for another 24 hours, so it goes into a “starvation mode” and holds onto as many calories as possible, giving you excess fat.... When you eat more often your metabolism speeds up because it is constantly working, digesting and moving through calories.
People confuse hunger with starvation mode......I'm hungry I must be going into starvation mode SMH It takes longer than a day without eating to go into starvation mode!!!!!! Ever hear of fasting? Those people don't even go into starvation mode they just get really hungry.0 -
Thank you!! And yes there are some bits within the Article that some may say are awful but we are all Different and our Bodies react differently to diets as well as exercises.. Just Because I have loss 154lbs On my own.. WITHOUT surgery or Diet Fads and completely on diet and exercise does not mean if someone was to go out there and do exactly what I did could either have better results or none at all , So Just because this article may seem pointless or unhelpful to some it might be helpful to someone else ...But It's More to the Fact that letting you know if you are not eating right and trying to Build Muscle then you are Starving it instead of repairing it!!!!!
And Like I Said our Bodies react differently to diets as well as exercises.. what some may see to be Myth or irrelevant may work wonders in others..

Congrats on your progress. Your reply confuses me, but regardless I'm happy for your success.0 -

I could talk to my plants every time water them, and then conclude that it was my talking that helped them grow. Well, it was the water, and not the talking.
Someone could spread their cals over the whole day, and lose -- but it was more likely due to the amount of cals, and not the timing of them.0 -

I want to thank you for sharing what worked for you. You are an inspiration to say the least. It doesn't matter about all of the scientific stuff, this worked for you, and I appreciate you sharing it with me0

I'd like to clarify something:
There's a specific reason that people reply with what appears to be "know-it-all" syndrome to threads like this. It's not because (at least, usually) they want to be right. It's because there is a whole slew of dietary myths that fortunately, are being proven false through sceintific research.
The reason it's important for these myths to be dispelled, even though (in your case) they're being presented to try and help, is because they create extra steps that are simply not necessary to acheive results.
I could have someone (w/o medical issues), eating every 2 hours with 6 or 7 small meals, and have them take whey protein 3 times, and have them avoid fruit and monitor insulin levels, and not eat past 6pm and have them take casein at night and wear hot pants, and if they train hard and use a reasonable macronutrient intake, they will make great progress.
I can also take the same person (again, w/o medical issues) and have them use a reasonable macronutrient intake and train hard, and they will ALSO make great progress.
Obviously you should use personal preference and let it dictate the things that DONT matter (like meal frequency), but it's really important not to spread the stuff that is irrelevant as being factual, because it causes people to focus on the shyt that doesn't matter.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. The above applies all over the boards here, IMO.
Oh and gotta add - I love how the original author refers to a "nutrition-expert employee" How do we know the difference between a "nutrition-expert employee" and just a regular employee? Just cuz they work at GNC???0 -
Most of that is dogma and myth, but I will agree that most people that complain they can't build muscle is the fact they don't eat enough.
^ I agree with all of this.
^ also agree with above
I'm with these people0 -

Talking to plants does help them grow. They like the CO2.
Anyway. I thought that the muscle burning a significant amount of calories compared to other tissue was complete bollocks too. Isn't it something like 5 cals more per hour? It's something negligible, anyway.
Though congratulations on the weight loss. That;s impressive.0 -
going to pop another bag of popcorn..its my snack0

I agree that most of what was presented by the OP isn't backed up by the research.
However, I will say that, for me, eating 5 times a day did have one benefit. I often got hungry between meals, and by the time my next feeding rolled around, I was ravenous and sometimes made bad food choices. Eating more often kept me from feeling so hungry between meals, and made it easier for me to eat healthier.
So in that respect, it worked for me. I still ate the same amount of calories, just spread out over the day. However, it's not necessary to do it this way. Some folks prefer to have 2 or 3 larger meals over the day. Machs nichts..........
And now that I'm bulking, I find it easier to break up the larger amount of calories into smaller meals. Eating that much at fewer sittings has become foreign to my stomach and makes me feel bloated. Whatever works for you...........:drinker:0 -
Just want to throw out that I personally eat 1 large meal a day for the most part (Unless a glass of ovaltine whole milk in the morning really counts as a meal? :P) and otherwise usually just snack. I also eat under or near my calorie goal for losing 2 pounds a week (Though I have gone over a few times, not TOO bad at least.). I also have been going to the gym the past week, and prior to that for the past couple weeks did push ups and sit ups at tome. I've had a grand total of 2 protein shakes from the gym I go to (They are tasty...)
I have however toned my arms nicely from the push ups, and built up significant ab strength already from the sit ups...and I haven't really followed a single piece of that advice. Just saying.0
