Hi!
Thought I'd introduce myself .
I am 51 and a former athlete who is tired of being tired, out of breath, over weight and unattractive.
I have spent the last 10 years overeating and drinking and under exercising and it's time to get my act together before some really ugly health issues sprout. I quit smoking about 10 years ago and at the same time retired from martial arts training and moved to a very remote community. It's very pretty, but there are no stores, no restaurants and certainly no places to exercise anywhere near by.
I walk outdoors a few days a week for a half hour and started doing some morning strength training as well, but it's just not enough.
My mother, father, sister and brother all were diagnosed with diabetes in their mid 40s. I feel fortunate to have made it this far without the same diagnoses. However, since I also now have menopause breathing down my neck. I need to get this weight off and get my act together.
My sister-in-law is a member here and I am sure we can keep each other on track. She is a very determined person and she has lost weight and gotten herself in shape before and I certain she can do it again.
Action speaks!
I joined a gym today and did my first 30-min. circuit training workout this afternoon. It was pretty darned hard, but I didn't pass out!
The gym is only $20 a month and 5 mins. from the office -- so no excuses! Let's work out!
I would love to be "friended" by other women who are close to my age and need to drop more than a few pounds. My first goal is to get under 200.
I've noticed by watching The Biggest Loser that once the contestants get under 200, they really start to get in shape and do well. Heck, I'm only 206 now. I could be under 200 by the end of the year easily.
Next goal is 184, which would be on the far end of the healthy BMI scale! From there, I'd like to get back to 165, which for my 6-ft. frame would be fantastic! Of course I will settle for 172 in a heart beat.
I've never spent much time in a gym, but I am looking forward to going there again tomorrow.
