I only recently saw this doco and would love to hear of anyone's experiences/success stories on following a diet as suggested in the movie (as in not necessarily McDonald's every day) but a low carb/high protein diet including fats? I'm very interested to know if it works and how you felt physically eating this way. Cheers!

I try to eat at 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats. Feel free to check out my diary, it's wide open.

Fat, including saturated fat is not bad for you and that's why I love this documentary. Plus it doesn't hurt that I hate Morgan Spurlock :P

But the creator himself has learned more since making this film. I love his blog. He's very intelligent and funny.

Within reason of course, with regards to saturated fats. You don't want to eat a diet high in saturated fats, but having them is not bad in itself.
  • I feel way better if I eat high protein, low carb and lots of non starchy vegetables. I eat leaner proteins though, just works well for me. I am still able to work long hours and exercise at a high intensity following that style of eating.

I eat around 50% fat, 35% protein and 15% carbs (all from fruits & veggies) and I feel fantastic. I'm at my goal and have stayed within the 5lb window since May. I've lost several inches from my waist, stomach & arms since May, but stayed in the same weight area, which is what I wanted.
  • Perhaps this was an anomaly, but here is a personal experience of mine:

A few weeks ago, I was very busy with school, and didn't have a lot of time to cook. I ordered Papa John's pizza's on Saturday, and pretty much just ate pizza through Thursday. (Yes, I was really tired of pizza by that time.) I stayed in my calorie range every day, which meant 6-8 slices (depending on the toppings). Anyway, at the end of the week, I lost over 5 lbs, which was the most I'd lost since my first week. Going way over on fat every day didn't seem to hurt my progress that week.

eating veggies, meat, eggs, nuts and dairy works really well for me, i feel good and I lose like crazy when i eat like this .. side note-you have to eat veggies, you cannot just eat meat and cheese...if you dont you wont feel great... but yeah when I actually stay on track its awesome.. it keeps my blood sugar steady too..
  • I eat a high-fat, moderate-protein diet - (my ratio is supposed to be 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs but seems to skew closer to 70% fat, 29% protein, 1% carbs). I know there's tons of saturated fat in there. I'm waiting for my first cholesterol workup results to come back, but going by all the results I've seen from other people following the same plan, I'm quite confident.

Anywho I'm more worried about heart disease and high BP, which is part of the reason I switched to a VLCD than I am about whatever the carb proponents on this forum say carbs reduce. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/12/071203091236.htm

If my BP and cholesterol shoot up, I'll consider eating carbs again. Til then, pass the butter. :D

It was really hard to sit through that nonsense. The dude was a pompous a-hole. He's supposedly a comedian, but he's not even funny. And he never even achieved a good level of fitness. If you look around MFP there are people who are much funnier and much more fit who eat balanced diets.

I really enjoyed Fat Head. In fact I watch it over and over again. I use to be very strict with my fat intake , now I have lightened up.

I tried higher fat lower carb diet and for me it made me vey sick to my stomach. I had my gallbladder removed in 2003 and I think it was the main cause.

No one macro nutrient is the devil.

Fat Head is making out that all carbs are evil. Not the case.

Eat less than your TDEE and get adequate protein & fat and you will lose weight (and hopefully a good percentage of that is fat rather than muscle)
